Guest guest
Wow Deb. Her attitude is bound to show thru to her customers also. Too bad her herbs dont tell her play nice when they are " speaking " to her. Shaye Craft show report....... I just finished my 2nd show this season and BOTH were terrible. These shows were poorly attended and sales were the worst I have experienced ever. I know it's early in the season but this is ridiculous. At both shows crafters were very nice and I enjoy chit chatting with such talented people. I must say I was shocked today upon meeting a fellow soapmaker/herbalist who displayed such arrogance and hostility towards other soapmakers. Her conversation with me consisted of her telling me how she quizzes other soapmakers on their ingedient list and how most of them buy in bulk and just add fragrance. This gal was pathetic and her insecurity was evident by the manner in which she talked down about everyone else. When i told her who I was she just continued her sermon, who she was training with, how herbs talk to her, and how most of us don't even know to sterlize our containers. Oh she grows her own herbs and makes her own rose water too!! Big S***, I buy mine so how's that (LOL)! Anywho, that's the highlight of my 2 shows....it's nice to come back home and talk with NICE soapers...LOL! Have a great night Debra near Syracuse

This " soapmaker " is obviously insecure with her product, so she must cut others down. That *IS* pathetic. In our journey through this life, we meet many who put on airs of superiority, and then, like the wind, they vanish and are gone! Don't let this person ruin your day! If anything, I always feel a bit of compassion for folks like this...I truly feel sorry for them. You know that your product is good! Sometimes I think folks think they will learn to make products and then sell them and make lots of money. They do no research..instead, they pick everyone else's brain. They have nothing to share...nothing to back up what they do. The net result is that they make what they make just " because " ...There is no reason WHY or even HOW, but they must feel confident in what they do...so...they cut others apart and feel perfectly fine in so doing. And, while ignorance is bliss...if it is confronted, it does tend to " rebel " ! There are so many sharing experienced soapers all over the web...one need not look far to find good recipes. Pirates abound!!! Just be encouraged, knowing the love, caring and research you have put into your product to make it your OWN! Kae

Guest guest
Wow, Deb, sorry to hear about your bad experience. Sounds like she was a little stressed, huh? I did the Naples Grape Festival this weekend. Always fun for me since I live here but man am I exhausted! I didn't get a chance to wander the show so didn't get to check out the other soapmakers that were there but I know there were about 3 or 4. Anybody from this list? Anyway, I had a woman come in and talk to me about something that's set up at MCC during the week. The cost for 3 tables was only like $5 but then you give 20% of your proceeds to the promoters. I don't know if that's a good deal or not. I told her that I work during the week so couldn't do something like that but gave her our website www..org and told her that there's lots of wonderful soapmakers in the group. Gave her your website too, Shaye, as she said she was from Ontario. I haven't checked the website lately to see if there's a list of members with links to their websites so maybe I sent her down the wrong path? Anyway, hope everyone had a great weekend. The weather was wonderful, huh?! I'm off to kick back and relax. The van can be unloaded in the morning! :-) Katy
Guest guest
I had similar experience last year. The woman I spoke to looked down on me because at the time I was making M & P. But I had been researching soap, and trued to have an intelligent discussion with her. Nothing doing. In fact, for all her arrogance and condescending attitude, it was amazing how much she didn't know. For example, there's no glycerin in HER soaps! To her, glycerin was a bad word! Oh well, as has been said, what goes around comes around. Diane GreenFireHerbs.com " Never say 'can't' when there's a 'How About This' still to be tried! " Craft show report....... Guest guest
.... And I look forward to running into Dianeone day at a show near me, since we're not too far from each other. She's one of the nicest soaping people I've talked to in person. Yeah, I once met another gal at my library---she was asking the librarian about milk-based soaps and I tried to chat with her. Talk about a cold response, LOL! Actually, I find that the nastiest people have the least interesting ingredient list on their soaps, anyway ;-) Geri > I had similar experience last year. Actually, someone who has no interest in talking to others about their craft is probably not willing to learn much, either. That's why I was so impressed with the gathering attendees, as everyone was so friendly and willing and eager to share information.
