Guest guest
I have to start calling this friday to see if they need me. What a dumb thing. Right on the back of my little form it says " jury duty can be such a rewarding experience " YEAH RIGHT!

Guest guest
lol! I got a summons for Grand Jury which really confuses me. Nowhere on there does it say I " may " be selected. They make it sound like I'm in. Has anyone ever done grand jury duty before? I have to report Thursday for the first day. I'm hoping if nothing else that this will be a little better than trial jury duty because they'll have a set schedule with set cases. Any other time I might find it very interesting but it's a tough time for me to be away from work. Summer is when all of the schools want their new computers installed (go figure). I'm supposed to expect at least 2 days a week for 3 months! Have fun with yours, ! Katy Don't know if I can make it to the gathering :( > I GOT SUMMONED FOR JURY DUTY!!!!!!! Guest guest
I was called for grand jury a few years ago. The first day they had a lottery and selected who the jurors would be... first time in my life I was glad that I never win the lottery! LOL.... I don't know if each county does it the same way, but if so and you haven't been through that part of it yet, you might get out of it. Good Luck! Don't know if I can make it to the gathering :( > I GOT SUMMONED FOR JURY DUTY!!!!!!! Hopefully they won't need me but > if they do I don't think I will be able to make it. Guest guest
Oh, Wow! That's good news! My boss will be thrilled to know that. :-) I don't mind serving but 3 months is a lot to ask from someone, ya know? Re: Don't know if I can make it to the gathering :( > > > lol! Guest guest
Yeah, I thought it might be like that. That's how it is for trial jury but the way the summons reads is a little different so it had me wondering. They'll let you opt out once but I figure if it's got to be 3 months, I'd rather it be summer than winter! :-) > A friend of mine did it about 10 years ago, LOL! > > You have to show up the first day, but I think they have a way of deciding > whether you serve or not after that. > > Beth >
Guest guest
Couple year ago I was called. Called in the night before to see if I had to show up. I did. Went there and they went thru a jury selection thing and I was among the first group to be released. I think cuz I had two young daughters and it was a staturtory rape case. Wasnt too bad but then I got to leave by 1 pm but the selection went on for a long time that day. Shaye
Guest guest
Yeah, when I lived in land I was called for trial jury duty and got picked. We never even got to listen to any testimony because they made a deal before it got that far. It was a rape case also. I think grand jury is different in that you look at the evidence and decide if a case should go to trial. I think that's why it's more of a set schedule and you don't call in the night before. It's more than just one case and you just serve a certain amount of time. I'd be worried that I wouldn't understand the laws enough but I bet I'd learn alot. Guest guest
: If you haven't sent in the notice yet, check the box that says you're aware of Jury Exclusion. I'll have to remember that, but having a relative who is an officer of the law helps too. The prosecution typically discounts you for that and it saved me recently. Again. Jury Exclusion is the ability of the jury to exclude itself from an idiotic case if it makes it to trial, at least according to what I've been told. Just being aware of it is enough to get you off, at least down here in Pa. Best of luck and hope to see you in Albany! Bob 6harmony.com > I GOT SUMMONED FOR JURY DUTY!!!!!!! Guest guest
Thanks, Bob... That's what someone else told me too and that's the way the summons reads. Ah well, guess I'll just make the best of it and maybe even learn something, huh?! :-) Katy > Katy: > > So I've heard (down in Pa anyway) when you get Grand or Fed, there is no > maybe...you're in! Guest guest
I had a friend get called for grand jury a couple weeks ago, for 6 weeks. She had to show up and she didn't end up being called..... I don't have to send anything in though. I was given a phone number I need to start calling each night starting this friday. I was given my group number so I am guessing when I call the number, it will tell me which groups have to report. Hopefully I won't have to go. I wouldn't count on that saving you. had a friend do that a couple years ago and they still picked him to be on the jury. My FIL got a letter about a year ago, he called them and said he didn't like to drive in the city, so they excused him! HAHAHA-I'm sure I'll come up with something. I'm an hourly employee so I have to figure out what would happen if I had to serve. Unless I get paid what I am now (basically nothing) I can't swing it finacially. I can barely pay my bills as it is.
Guest guest
Just make it sound like your employer can't live without you & that'll probably do it. That usually works better than making yourself out to be something you're not. Guest guest
I got paid 40 bucks for the day I reported in... and I dont even have a paying job! Guest guest
Don't hold me to this, but somewhere there is a little clause or something about being one employee or something.... I know my hubbys bosses lawyers have some paper drawn up incase my hubby ever gets called.... he's the only one in the shop that can speak to, understand and communicate with the 8 Cuban Refugees they have working in the shop..... the shop would fall apart if he had to miss any work. He has hours and hours... weeks and weeks of Vacation on the books because he can't afford to take any time off.... the last time he actually took 2 days was for my knee surgery (and you all remember how long ago that was!) anyway... they had him on the phone that afternoon asking where a certain motor was and then the next day they were looking for something else too. Anyway... I know an employee for a company with a certain number of employees can be exempt if a hardship can be proved or something like that.
