Park,

This is too weird. I slipped on the wet floor after getting out of

the shower this morning and fractured my left ankle! This ankle has

been broken once before, and I sprained it back in November. My

friend drove me to the doctor, who didn't cast it; he iced it,

stabilized it with padding and an ace bandage and told me to " stay

off " it for the next 4-6 weeks (!!!!!) until it heals. Of course,

I'm completely freaking out. I can't stay off it. I have to work out

and lose weight. ARGHGHGHG! What am I going to do? No way I'm

going to stop working out. I'll have to do my cardio on the

stationary bike from now on, since I obviously can't run. This is

such a pain.

DANI! NO! I don't believe this! Sheesh! Both you and Park on the same day.

PLEASE don't do the bike right away - Is this going to change your Boston plans?

Do you go to a gym? See if they have the " bike " that you move with your arms

instead of your feet ... At least give your ankle a chance to heal!

I feel so awful for you hon. {{{HUG}}} is all I can offer you and support until

you heal.

Dani - OMG first the refried beans and now this! We must be soul-mates. I am

so sorry. Mine is only a small sprain - not a fracture! I hope you can do the

bike, but do take care not to do anything that will lay you up even longer. Eat

clean and take it easy for at least a while. I am soooooo sorrrrrryyyyy!

Thank you for the words of comfort. I'm so mad at myself. I was just

in such a damn hurry today, and here I am paying the price. And what

a dumb accident, too--slipping on the wet bathroom floor. Sheesh.

Bond, I ain't.

I swear, Park, we must be cosmically connected. I wish I'd read your

post before I got in the shower this morning. I would have been

extra careful :)

Rita, I don't think this will change my Boston plans. After all, I'm

going there to teach not scale cliffs. I could be in a wheel chair

and still do my thing in the classroom. The dr. said I can keep

walking on it and stretching it. He didn't give me crutches. It's a

very small fracture, which is why he didn't cast it. I have drugs

for the pain and instructions to elevate it and ice it every night.

I'm going to do what I can, esp. my upper body workouts and see how I

do on the rec. bike. I'll also keep eating VERY clean.

Here's to no more accidents!

LOL TC! That's the funniest thing... my parents are OLD and FEEBLE and come to

visit once a week. I am constantly worrying about them tripping over one of my

kids' toys so am always SOOOO careful. Then it happens to me! I've had my foot

up on ice all during nap time and it is already feeling a bit better...

One thing that urks me is that I always hit my little

toe on the corners of things...you'd think I'd be able

to avoid that in my own home, but out of the month, it

happens at least once..lol(feeling clumsey)

This is off topic, but have any of you noticed that

when you work closely with or live with with a group

of women that eventually all of you seem to have your

little visitor around the same time each month? At

least I've noticed that, it may just be a coincidence

though. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope this

isn't a trend. Oh boy...lol, although I've seen BFL

competitors who are in wheel chairs who complete

challenges, so Park and Dani, don't worry, you'll do

fine. Just give yourself a little more TLC

That's how I broke my ankle the first time ... I was walking down the beach with

my late husband and he asked me if I had ever had a major physical problem. I

said (very proudly) NO ... and the very next day I broke my ankle while taking

a tennis lesson. :-(

TC - have you read The Red Tent?

Re: Re: I am INJURED!!!--Me too!

I've heard that it has something to do with hormones or something and our bodies

somehow sense it in other women and respond " accordingly " . lol

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes. I'm sure Park is as frustrated

as I am with this whole injury business. I did the RICE treatment

for my ankle today. Tomorrow I'm going to the gym to do upper body.

I figure I can hobble around well enough. And I'll be eating extra

clean until my ankle heals (no free days).

I'm mostly upset because I won't be able to run for at least four

weeks. The dr. said I can probably return to cardio next week if I

do something non-impact like the stationary bike, but definitely no

bouncing, which rules out running. I'm really bummed. I've been

hitting my tens all week on the treadmill. :(

I guess once the seed is planted in the mind, it can

become a reality unless we substitute it for another.

Rita,

Well, I worked out today. Since I can't do HIIT, I'm going to do

steady-state cardio on the recumbent bike until my ankle heals. I

did 45 minutes today, then did my upper body workout. My ankle's a

little sore. I'm icing as we speak. I think it'll be okay.

I hope you didn't overdo it on the bike hon. I did some ubwo today ... without

a trainer I'm having a rough time figuring out my program so I'm taking it in

baby steps. lol

Also I have to be careful not to do too much other than biceps and triceps (I

did a little chest today too) ... the therapist warned me about that. :-(

Rita,

I hope I didn't overdo it either. I have a really hard time taking

it easy when I'm sick or injured. When do you think you'll be able

to get back into doing your full workouts?
