Guest guest
nne: I do a fair amount of M & P and by glancing at the pics, I'd say they pour one color, let it harden A LITTLE, squirt it with some 91% alcohol (CVS) then add the second color and so on. I like to pierce the skin too, as it adheres better, but you might get a little color mixing that way. Alcohol helps the layers adhere but don't use too much or you can ruin molds or run colors, EVEN if they're pigments. Dyes always bleed so be prepared for that. That's actually a bit desirable for soap like this. I know a gal down this way that was origionally from Albany and still comes up to do SPAC. She uses the Jello egg molds and does layers for multi-colored Easter eggs. And BTW, I'm sending you a bar of something yummy we spoke about during the Yankee Swap. How do you like your pillow? Guest guest
Bob, Thanks for the thoughts on that tie-dyed M & P soap. I thought it looked pretty cool! Maybe I'll try it sometime. It would make a great idea for kids, too, I think. You ROCK!!! Thank you for what you're sending me! That's very thoughtful of you. I am just LOVING my lavender buckwheat pillow ... I've slept with it ever since Saturday night. What a great Yankee Swap gift! nne http://bathtubjunkie.star-shaped.org/ -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . With ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, that's how they do it, nne. :-) You have to be careful about letting the soap cool as much as possible before pouring, and slowly pour from each end, and use colors that will blend into a nice 3rd color, but it can be done. Guest guest
Here's my tie dyed soap http://www.thistlemeadowsoaps.com/catalog/product_info php?cPath=25 & products_id=105 I would imagine that maybe they are made the same way only I used less colorant on purpose. To make this I took liquid colorant and put a few drops of different colors directly in the mold and poured the plain white soap base over it. You can " sort of " control how the effect happens by pouring over one color first or by pouring around the mold instead of in just one spot. I used white base, but I have used clear before and gotten more of the look of the soaps on the site you sent through. I'm wondering now if maybe they put like say the blue and green dye directly in the mold and then poured like yellow colored clear over that..... hmmmm I might have to experiment with that one I hope to be able to post something later today.... I've been so busy since the gathering and trying to keep tabs on a hubby who is all swelled up from more bee stings than he'll tell me about!
