I wondered how the hello someone who is 'mentally confused' is supposed to be rational enough to call 911. That don't make no sense!

Hey ,

Make sure someone is WITH you during this time.... have you checked your

sugars after the you took the Glucophage? Check every 15 minutes, until you

see your sugars going down. for the meter not to be able to give a reading,

the sugar must be really high.Go to the ER as soon as you feel 'high' or

having extreme body ache. Don't wait until you are too confused! Also, if

your hubby realises that your breath smells weird, then see the doc too,

that is a sign of DKA -diabeteic ketoacidosis.

I'm not trying to scare you, just want to be more careful...

Icing on the friggin cake

Hello family. I am so @# & **$%! upset right now. You know how my pain

doctor put me on high dose prednisone for inflammation? Well, now the REAL

fun begins. You also know how I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes?

Well, I tested my blood sugar tonight because I was getting shaky and

sweaty, and at first it was 569. Now, the tester won't even register it

because it is so high. Oh joy. Now, the on call dr is putting me on

glucophage, and I am supposed to go the ER if I get mentally confused or

dizzy. I swear, if this stuff doesn't stop.....ARGH!!!! What

next!?!?!?!?!?

Shaky and sweaty hugs,

Ling,

There wasn't anyone to go with me...I am here alone. I finally got ahold of

Don, and let him know I was really mad at him. He switched hotels, and

didn't bother to let me know. GRRR! I just got back from the ER, my sugars

are down, but still hovering around 300. They gave me some insulin and made

me drink a LOT of water. I have a kidney infection too, they say it has

something to do with it. It is funny you should mention funny breath. The

receptionist at the hospital said I smelled like oranges. I haven't eaten

any, or been around any, but she said it was my breath. I guess there are

worse things to have your breath smell like! What kind of odor is present

for the DKA thing you talk about? Would it smell terrible? I don't have

that, if that is the case. I feel a lot better, but my tummy is sloshy from

all the water. I was speeding all the way home I HAD TO PEE!!!!! I was

told to stay on the Prednisone and Glucophage until I see my doc on Monday

(IF they can fit me in of course) and to return to the ER if my sugars reach

above 400. It's funny, because when I saw that 569, I thought that the

meter was broken. I'd never seen my sugars that high before. I calibrated

it, ran a test strip, and then it wouldn't read. I am going to test my

sugar again, and then crawl into bed. What a day! I just saw a horrible

post from Jessi, too. I'm much too worn out to type a scared letter to ya

Jessi, but rest assured I will tomorrow. (er...later today, I guess, since

it is 2 am!) Night night everyone!

Sugar-free Hugs,

OMG heather......... My dr. told me to go to the hospital if my sugar was

above 500....... thats awful dangerous. have you been checking your sugar

on a regular basis? I was just wondering what kinda numbers you were

getting? I take Glucophage, its not bad. But i got an upset stomach for

like a week when i started it( which is common).

If your numbers are usually like 90-175 you will start to " Know " when your

sugar is above 200. I dont know how to explain how you " Know " but you just

do. That must have been awful, i bet you were exhausted too. A low always

takes all my umph and makes me want to sleep for a day or two. Ive never

been as high as that.. i think 410 was my highest.

Anyway. Im just trying to say hang in there....... And i hope you have good

luck with the Glucophage.

What was described in the health guides about DKA is actually a " fruity

smell " ! It is not smelly, it just smells different...

Hope your sugars are under control now?
