Guest guest
From post on another board, Uno Mas, I saw that a young man with Down syndrome died the first of last month at the age of 22. Here are, I hope, two links to St. sburg Times newspaper articles about him: http://www.sptimes.com/2005/07/06/Hillsborough/A_remarkable_achiever.shtml http://www.sptimes.com/2002/05/12/TampaBay/Lifelong_devotion.shtml And here's the obituary notice: POWERS, GEOFFREY A., 22, of Tampa, died Friday (July 1, 2005) in Tampa. He was a National Merit Scholar at Gaither High School and an honor student at the University of South Florida. Survivors include his mother, Diane M. Tower; his father, Geoffrey A. III; and two sisters, Lana W. and Nena M. Blount & Curry Funeral Home, Carrollwood Chapel, Tampa. Heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I notice that cause of death is unknown, at least at time of obit; but his father was guessing could be cardiac related. Makes me think this could be another reason why kids with Ds, even ones without any history of heart defects, should be checked again by cardiologist at about age 16, I think, to catch any problems with prolapsed valves. Regrets and respects, Bob
