PECS Two Week Intensive Summer Program

Full Day Program Functional Communication/PECS Training for children

ages 2-6 years

Focus: This intensive 2-week session is ideal for families seeking

intensive summer communication programming. Each session will meet for

6 hours per day, five days per week for two weeks. The program is

designed for students needing comprehensive and intensive functional

communication intervention. The emphasis will be on teaching children

to communicate within functional routines. This program is ideal for

students who need to develop functional communication skills and who are

new to " group " instruction. This includes children who have been

receiving instruction in an individual format or who have not been

successful in group settings. Each student's current communicative

repertoire will be assessed so that specific skill deficits can be

addressed. After baseline data is collected specific goals for camp

will be developed for each student. The instructional methodology will

encompass strategies of applied behavior analysis and with an emphasis

on " reinforcer first " strategies. Parents will have opportunities to

observe their child and will receive a comprehensive report at the end

of the session.

Staff: Each session will be staffed with Certified Special Education

teachers and teaching assistants that are proficient in PECS. Mindy

Glassberg a certified Special Educator with expertise in autism, Pyramid

Approach to Education, functional programming, and PECS implementation

will act as an on-site supervisor to all classrooms. All staff will be

carefully supervised throughout the session. Pyramid Educational

Consultants, Inc., co-founded by Dr. Andy Bondy and Lori Frost, MS, CCC,

will oversee this project.

Monday through Friday

Session 1 June 18-29

Session 2 July 16-27

9:00-3:00

Fee: 2800.00

Cost per session: 2800.00

The deadline for registration for either session is April 15,2001 and

is limited to 8 children per class. A minimum of two classes will

operate concurrently during each session. Additional classes may be

formed if enrollment exceeds 16 children and we have enough to fill the

next class. Registration fees are due on or before May 1, 2001. We

reserve the right to cancel this program if minimum enrollment

objectives are not met.
