Guest guest
Re: the ever intricate deliberations of the OBCE........... Dear Board Members: Would our patients be better served, should we all simultaneously leap to the standard of care for our patients using the concept of "clinical justification"? I think not. Dictionary.com simplistically defines "justification" The act of justifying. The condition or fact of being justified. Something, such as a fact or circumstance, that justifies: considered misgovernment to be a justification for revolution. See Synonyms at apology. "Clinical Justification" has all the rich nuance of another famous phrase: "controlling legal authority".... I believe the patient is better served leaving such concepts to other professions. "Rationale" Fundamental reasons; the basis. An exposition of principles or reasons. This is a stronger term which describes what we do in making choices regarding patient care. Rationale is what we use in making well considered decisions. Justification is what we use in explaining what went wrong while denying responsibility.
