Guest guest
This was the first winter we tried SO swimming instead of the usual basketball. loved it and we found out he has an awesome backstroke! Once he learns to breathe properly, he will also be good at freestyle because he has the stroke. Well, at his IEP meeting in May the high school spec. ed teacher suggested putting on the summer swimteam at our public pool after seeing him swim in gym class. I was a little leary, but he insisted and also wants him on the HS swim team this coming school year! Well, has been going to swim team practice practically every day and loves it at our local pool. He was in his first meet this past Monday night and did fabulous. He swam again other 17 yr. old boys (none of them special ed kids) and nearly placed 3rd out of the 4 of them swimming! He did 4 laps, 100m, of backstroke and did a fantastic job. While he was swimming his second lap he could see us cheering from the edge of the pool and had the biggest smile on his face and was also giggling the whole way. The place went nuts! Everyone was cheering him on, even the parents and swimmers of the other team! He also swam on a relay team. He was so proud of himself! He didn't care about winning, but he sure loved the fanfare! If you could see the way is built you would probably knock me upside the head and say " why didn't you try swim team years ago! " He has awesome shoulders and he looks like he lifts weights.....naturally lean with a six-pack to boot! Swimming backstroke is a hidden talent we never knew he had! Just proves it's never too late!
