Since you didn't have all the information the rest of the team had, I'd look it over, hear what they have to say (so you can figure out what's up) and announce that you need some time to look over the behavioral information before you can agree to any course of action. You can emphasize that you did request the info so you could be better prepared, but since you weren't extended that courtesy the meeting will have to be reconvened at a later date. Guest guest
Well. as long as they know that if you don't have the information ahead of time to make an education decision on anything..(which you most certainly can't do on the spur of the moment)...and they will have to have another IEP meeting to finish the unfinshed business. It's their choice not to share, it's your choice to study the info...EVEN if it means they have to meet after school is out for the summer... That way you'll find out what is up at the meeting and then have time to deal with it.. and make THEM sweat it. M.

Guest guest
I agree.... tell them thanks for the info during the meeting and that you need time to study it and lets set a date for reconvening.... need someone to go with you Di.... I could probably get some time off and then you could have an advocate of sorts and I can get some insight into school IEP's since this is Vickies transition to Kindergarten this year Re: need a quick response > Well. as long as they know that if you don't have the information ahead of > time to make an education decision on anything..(which you most certainly > can't > do on the spur of the moment)...and they will have to have another IEP > meeting > to finish the unfinshed business. Guest guest
We have to let them know in advance because if we tape, they tape. I would also suggest that you check out your tape recorder in advance..... our first (and only, actually) taped IEP everyone was pretty soft, and it was difficult to hear. I'd try it out around the kitchen table or something to make sure it's loud enough to hear without background noises. , mom to (9), (7 DS), and (5) Loree5@... wrote: > >In a message dated 5/19/2005 8:23:06 P.M. Guest guest
I've always used a tape recorder during ARD's and it's always been a good positive experience, (they school has their recorder to that they bring) I just told them that I need to be able to go back and review things and it's very helpful.. I've actually gone back and listened a couple of times... Bringing a tape recorder to IEP's is so so helpful Stefanie
Guest guest
Testing out the tape recorder in advance is a good idea - however, in our experience it's not the tape itself that holds the most value - it's the fact that when you are taping, you elicit a different level of participation in the meeting than when you are not taping.... all of a sudden they are extremely careful in how things are presented..... you know? I have never gone back to listen to any of the IEP's that I have taped.... but many more issues were more clearly resolved during those meetings.... -- Kathy mom to (20-DS) in California -------------- Original message -------------- > We have to let them know in advance because if we tape, they tape. I do have one tape that I used to love to play as I lay soaking in a hot tub with candles and a Pepsi..and that was the one where the kindergarten teacher was screaming at me.. " I will NOT treat any child differently in my classroom. If he can't do what the rest of the kids.. he will not be in my class. " I think that is when our due process changed direction....LOL. M. Guest guest
It helps to have an external microphone. Place that microphone on a book so the vibrations from the recorder do not interfere with understanding the voices in the room. It will also has a better chance to pick up conversations going on between parties that are not privy for all ears. Guest guest
well, I emailed the director and said under 300.562 I have the right to this info before the meeting. She said she checked with her legal consultant and they said it only applied to records they already have and not ones I want created but she had them send them to me anyway!
