Here's the abstract that made the front page of Medpage today RE: Yoga,

Chronic LBP, aerobic exercise and self-help booklets....

This abstract describes the yoga style studied as " viniyoga, " which

reflects the earlier work of father/son teachers T.K.V. Desikachar and

T. Krishnamacharya. This study used closed-chain asanas, we can be

pretty sure. The son, T.K.V. Desikacher has written a very good book

on building a private practice specialized to individual needs. This

book, " The Heart of Yoga, " also includes Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, with

commentary on each aspect by Desikacher. The Sutras are the

philosophical basis of yoga and address the mental aspects of yoga much

more than the physical asanas. Regarding the asanas, or physical

postures of yoga, only two requirements are necessary for a yoga pose:

steadiness in posture and being at-ease in posture. Here's the table
