From the KUTAPRESSIN package insert:

KUTAPRESSIN injection (liver derivative complex) is a sterile

solution containing 25.5 mg liver derivative complex per mL in

sterile water for injection.

KUTAPRESSIN Injection is composed of peptides and amino acids. The

product contains no protein and does not exhibit anti-anemia

We were in Germany this summer and I went 3 pharmacies to inquire about

getting Kutapressin there, as the manufacturer is Schwartz, a German co. (I

believe). None of the pharmacies had it, nor could they figure out if it was

sold in Germany under another name. I had hoped to buy it there for a lot

less as my insurance does not cover it and it is costing us $140 per bottle.

I also heard a similar product was made in the US but don't know how it

compares.

The pharmacists I spoke with in Germany know Schwartz but just couldn't find

anything like Kutapressin in their systems or PDR-type manuals.

The criteria would vary from child to child just as the disability does.

Since most of the children who get it are not getting it as an isolated drug

and testing on it was never done for the exact way it is being used now I

don't believe the reassurance your husband wants exists at the present time.

Having said all that Dr. Goldberg has used it long enough that if he

recommends it I would seriously consider his recommendation. My daughter has

had a wonderful response from it and that has made me only more optimistic

about the use of the drugs that will eventually be tested.

I will be mentoring in Dr. Goldberg's office from the 19th until the 23rd of

March. Does anyone have an appointment during that week? I would love to meet

some of you in person! Kathy -Northern New York

I have no statistics, etc. on Kutapressin. However, I can relate that my son

has been taking this for almost 3 years. Within 2-3 months we noticed a very

favorable impact, and it has continued well since. Our son is recovered, no

signs of autism. We feel the use of Kutapressin was the single biggest factor

in his recovery. Obviously, I recommend it highly.

I have posted the story before, and since you have been on this list for a

long time, I'm sure you've read it.

My son was diagnosed at a very prestigious autism center as " moderately to

severely autistic " at age 23 months. He did ALL the things you hear everyone

talk about, including stemming, etc. We started seeing Goldberg when he was

about 3. In the meantime we did a lot of therapy including Lovaas, Greenspan,

and the Koegel's approach (Santa Barbara). My son didn't talk at all until

about 4 1/2.

We did the standard Goldberg protocol. 2-3 months after we started

Kutapressin we began noticing a definite change, and it improved gradually

over the next year and a half. He was deemed recovered at about age 5. Our

opinion is the medications had the most effect on our son, but without

good, concentrated therapy, there would be problems from the few years he had

had difficulty.

Why did he recover? Who knows? I'm just telling you our experience. I am not

aware of any problems that can be created by Kutapressin, and with Goldberg's

frequent testing, I would assume if there were problems, he would detect it.

Therefore, I would certainly give it a try. We certainly experimented with a

lot of stuff, and when we felt there were problems occurring, or we weren't

seeing a positive effect, we stopped. Why not do the same with Kutapressin?

If you're waiting for definite research data, that definitively proves the

answer has been found, FORGET IT. It doesn't exist, which is why no one quite

knows how to pursue this whole spectrum. That's the hardest part, but I would

sure have a rough time living with it had we not tried everything, and then

found out in the future it could have had a positive effect.

Good luck

Kutapressin (for the past 3 yrs.) has been one of the factors keeping my 9yr

old ASD child physically well. she is very severely autistic and was ill

constantly. It has boosted her learning capabilities because she feels

better....is happier, and more focused. I am starting Kutapressin injections

tomorrow for CFS. After seeing the results in my daughter, i am looking

forward to this new treatment for me and improving my health.
