Guest guest
Hi all: I got a call this afternoon from a nice chiropractor in Minnesota asking me to join ACN. After I laughed and listed the problems I remember from when Barry was an ACN member (I never was) years ago- low reimbursement, preauthorizations, care requests cut, he was taken aback. Like everyone else he said fees weren't their department. Just who negotiates these things? Anyways, he said ACN needs providers (why I didn't ask) and is opening their panels up. He said there is a one page form half filled out by the patient and the other half by us giving care for a year. I asked him to send the info to me. He said they are taking over the Great West and some other local contracts. He said they will be cancelling those with us. Is this a scare tactic to get me to join? I think there is also a fee to join which I won't pay. Am I nuts to even look? Anyone still with them? Ann Goldeen, Astoria
Guest guest
It may be time to squeeze ACN and ASHN out of Oregon. We don’t know the strength we have. If we voluntarily diminish the numbers of panel docs to the pt. where they can‘t bid for a contract leaving CHP as one of the only games in town, will CHP return to a more reasonable reimbursement? The above sentence has a “we” in it. Are we a “we”? Do we need to get to work? Should we just read Pilzer’s books (i.e. “The New Health Insurance Solution” and “The Wellness Revolution,”) and move on because the dinosaurs are dinosaurs? http://www.paulzanepilzer.com/ ( E. Guest guest
Hi Joe, Being a "member" of both these organizations, I can tell you exactly how good they are, NOT! I've written off more in standard Oregon charges for services rendered than I've been paid by ASHN. ACN provides a reduction, but not as dramatic. Worth "membership?" Membership has its privileges, but I'm still having trouble with the power company accepting 43% payment on their charges (maybe I can just have ASHN send their check to Pacific Power and that will cover it). Funny how that works! I've made more on nutrition sales in one month than I've made ALL YEAR FROM ASHN! As I look at today's insurance mailings and the three companies that sent EOBs today, I see three companies that reject Chiropractic services or reduce standard fees That's why I decided to move more toward a cash practice late last year. I highly recommend everyone get off the insurance and HMO grid ASAP. IMHO. Having the patient pay for services rendered makes them value your services. Then they won't go to the LMT or PT for adjustments because you're the one they trust. Christian Mathisen, D.C. 3650 S Pacific Hwy Medford, OR 97501 cmathdc@... ACN Ha ha ha, yes, i'm going to stir it up here. For the longest time i've confused ACN with being ASHN and was just notified by a patient of my mistake. So it is ACN that has United Health and Great West (both of which don't present to my office very often obviously). Anyway, I know these guys are being sued etc. and I'm assuming they are the evil twin of ASHN. Is this correct?? Can those experienced with them please comment on their Re-imbursement for chiro services as well as the worthiness of joining this group. I know I know, but I want to feel good about losing potential patients.
