Guest guest
I would be upset if a regular ed teacher and an LEA were not present at my IEP " IF " their appearance or input made a difference. If it didn't really matter if they were there or not, then I would have them put in the minutes that I agreed to waive my right s to have them there. AN IEP is required to have a special ed, reg ed, and LEA there. (Also any others that provide services.) I know how hard it is to try to get everyone together and get subs, etc so I have always asked them to provide a written PLOP and recommendations that I want to see ahead of time so I know if there will be any controversy. I know some don't " think " it is good to get the recommendations ahead of time but as a parent and a teacher, I personally believe that there should be no surprises on either side. If there are issues to be worked out, I want to try to work it out before the meeting. For instance, gets 2 and half hours of speech a week now. I told the speech therapist I wanted more and she is working with me on how much and where (pull-out or in class). Jen is in high school and while I prefer in-class, because she is working with her on her Dynamyte, she feels it would be better for her to work with in pull-out. We will work thru it now so the meeting is short and sweet. HTH. Kathy Everett.
