Guest guest
http://www.disabilitysolutions.org/pdf/4-3.pdf (this edition covers wandering issues for our children). Code Step 1: Staff member who notices he is missing contacts the office. Step 2: The office announces " Code " over the intercom system. Step 3: Classroom teachers search their classroom. Other staff checks outside, the bathrooms, storage rooms, and any other places where a teacher is not present. Step 4: After 1 minute, call 9-1-1. Once the policy was developed, the staff was trained in how to execute Code . The principal also notified the local police to inform them of 's wandering. Code has never been used, but I feel better with it in place. How far is the school doors from the road? WHen we implemented CODE MATTHEW on his IEP, he had just received a PT eval where he was timed running so many feet in so many seconds. This put his ability to be on the road within a minute. When he left school, he was found outside on the playground for Head Start students. They did not know exactly how long he was gone - they said it took about 8 minutes before they found him was they discovered he was gone. The school never bothered to call me when they could not find him - I found out the next day. I warned the school and got the " We keep a good eye on him " bull crap. The teacher had to learn she was no better than I was in keeping a good eye on him - he's quick and fast and most of all, determined! Ironically, I was a Child Protective Service social worker at the time - I'm sure the teacher didn't sleep well that night. The school was very proactive after that incident. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
