Guest guest
HOUSE BILL 2588 PASSES FULL SENATE!! We be two for two getting both of our bills to the Governor's desk can ya believe it!!! Thank You to all you dear colleagues that again stepped up and made your phone calls and had your patients calling your Senators, you again have made all the difference...together we can accomplish anything! Our enemies came out in absolute force there must have been 10 or 12 lobbyist again working the Senators, we even had someone representing orthopedic surgeons working the Senators..... Nonetheless I had a friend standing shoulder to shoulder with me and that was big Bob Oleson ODOC's lobbyist Bob and I were like two Chinese sentries guarding the Great Wall and here came the Huns.....over the wall and right smack tab at us. We need to thank our good colleagues in ODOC for setting aside partisan chiropractic politics and helping for the "good of the order" for the profession, for all colleagues. Bob has been a pleasure to work with and is a great guy. Only thing missing was the other "big guy" Dr. Setera however has worked hard behind the scenes for the profession and we have spoken often over the phone and via e-mail. has had many excellent suggestions, ideas, and given me many a pep talk....thank you Dr. Setera! Wanna hear something really cool Dr. Alan Bates Senator from Ashland who we supported, who is an osteopath/family physician, who Dr. and Cheryl Colwell had a wonderful dinner fundraiser for at their home during the election cycle came through HUGH for us today. He came to me this morning and said "Vern they are lining up against your bill, I had the orthopedic surgeons lobbying against your bill, and now the Oregon Medical Association has also weight in, and numerous members of the business lobby, do you have the votes?" I said absolutely Senator. He told me he went on to say to all of these big money players "so where have you been these last six months? Vern was here where the hell were you? I'm not changing my vote this late in the game, it's a good study and I've given them my commitment!" Alan was given our bill to "carry" at the last moment which means he speaks to why the bill is a good study etc., etc. he was wonderful! How cool is that..........now dear colleagues thank you wonderful colleague and his wife Dr. and Mrs Colwell for that one! We will be there for Dr. Bates BIG TIME THIS NEXT ELECTION CYCLE! NEXT ACTION STEP LETTERS TO THE GOVERNOR!!! Next we need letters to the Governor by doctors, patients, friends , relatives, whomever in support of HB-2588 so he doesn't veto the bill since MLAC didn't officially approve of it. I know this is time consuming but it will absolutely help win the day.....doctors just like in the old days we need to have multiple sample scripts for patients and friends to use as a guide for letters to the Governor. Get a box of the small white envelopes, nothing with a letterhead, plain white paper or color whatever but keep the clinic logo out of it. This is critical have them hand write the letter to the Governor while they are in the waiting room, these don't have to be more than a paragraph or two. Have them hand address the envelope and give it back to you prior to going back to a treatment room. You mail them in this way you know the followed through and that the letter has been sent. I know this is asking a lot but it takes organization, time etc but this bill/study could help change everything for us in the long run and these letters are hugely effective. Legislators know that for every one voter that takes the time to write there are 20 others who think the same way but simply don't take the time to write! Here is how to address the letters: August 3, 2005 Honorable Governor Ted Kulongoski 160 State Capitol 90 Court Street Salem, Oregon 97310 Dear Governor Kulongoski, Next post I will give samples for the body of the letters with several options...I'm I little burnt....need to chill. In closing we will have no more than a two week window in which to convince the Governor not to veto our bill and these patient job public letters will be extremely helpful.....know this I have already gained right at 30 letters to the Governor from legislators as well as phone calls....and will be working on the balance of the members to do the same. Also we have some very powerful legislative friends already working the Governor's office in hopes of getting him to sign the bill....rather than vetoing it.....also our enemies our working his office as well and we must counter-attack....it's all for not if he veto's the bill......so we cannot rest on our victories we must continue to work...... In closing doctors: TODAY WAS OUR DAY! Vern Saboe Questions if I can help 541-231-4528
