Guest guest
Anyone have any insight into pancreatitis? I have a (52 years old) bother in Minnesota, who had an episode of severe upper left abdominal pain. He has a hx. Of diverticulitis and is diabetic. His lab findings included elevated lipase. An ultrasound was ordered by his M.D. and 1/2 day was invested in trying to visualize his pancreas. When he entered the hospital the following week, he was told that an ultrasound would not be able to visualize his pancreas but it is a great money maker! A CT scan of his abdomen revealed a pancreas which was " a little fuzzy on one end " . The scan did not reveal much but it is a great money maker! He is being managed with IV antibiotics, almost no food, and pain meds. It is always affirming to see the most educated among us with unlimited resources and no concern for expense stumbling around in DDX with less acumen than a chiropractor. It appears that unless the condition progresses to the point of being surgical or hemorrhagic, the treatment options tend to be mild and supportive; more antibiotics, no fat foods, rest, some pain meds. In short, pathetic. Aggressive alternative medicine has much to teach allopathic medicine, but they aren't listening. Any ideas would be appreciated. ( E. Abrahamson, D.C.)
