Guest guest
I don't have any trouble with anyone asking for some accomodation for their child. There are a whole lot of reasons why this may be the right thing to do. I am some bothered if the same parents who want total inclusion for their child and then ask for special accomodation, particularly when the child's peers are present. My wife always gave me a hard time because I'd ask the ski areas to give Jan reduced rates, and they usually would and sometimes gave me reduced rates as well. The truth was that she skied as long and hard as most kids her age. I only went to Sesame Place once. I had a bunch of boys (Jan's brothers, their friends, and Jan). She had a wonderful time in the pit full of balls, but it was the rope netting that went up high that she really loved. I was sore for days from following her. As I remember it, she paid the same as all the kids and got at least as much out of it. All of our kids are different, as are we parents. If we are going to insist on specific accomodation, then we should be aware of fairness as viewed by age equivalent peers. Your views on this may be different. Guest guest
I took Rick's comment differently! I thought he was saying he was wrong in asking for reduced ski rates when Jan was skiing as well as anyone else without a disability, so why should she get the reduced rates? As to amusement parks, etc, I feel that we chose to go so they certainly don't have to offer reduced rates, but if they have them, I will take them! It's just a " perk " for having a daughter with DS!! Rejoice!
