Guest guest
In my opinion (which could be different from everybody else's), but I would say that yes you can eat as many veggies as you want. The fibre in the veggies just makes everything great. I would, however, like to caution you about carrots. They're great when they are raw, but when cooked, they release a sugar that makes them starchy. But that's just my opinion. Congrats on starting!!!! Guest guest
carrots are debatable ... they are high in sugar but some say its okay to eat them - specially raw - others not. I was eating them crazy when I first started but then someone told me not a good idea. *sigh* Rita This may be a stupid question but......(veggies) Can we eat all the veggies we want? Provided they arent starchy stuff like corn and potatoes which are considered carbos. How about Lettuce and Carrots. I LOVE salads and would love to have a huge plate of lettuce and carrots and some chicken for protein maybe sprinkled with mrs dash. How does that sound? Do I have to watch my veggie intake. I could eat carrots all day. Thanks! Laurie
Guest guest
Laurie, Non starchy veggies are " free " . Carrots only become " dangerous " (LOL thinking of that!) carbs when they are cooked. I guess you COULD go overboard on veggies, but I wouldn't worry about it, personnally! Park This may be a stupid question but......(veggies) Can we eat all the veggies we want? Guest guest
<<Yup You can eat all the veggies you want as long as they are from the authorized list Serenity>> If you never eat more than whats on the 'authorized' list in the BFL book for your carbs, you will never understand how to make this a lifestyle and not a 'd-i-e-t'. BFL is about making good choices and the list in the book is like a beginning guideline but it is not all there is..you have only to look at the BFL main website or issues of MM magazines recipes to understand this. Understand that yes, most people will not get fat by eating vegetables BUT they are still carbs and they CAN add up if you are grazing on them like a cow in the pasture all day! One carrot has about 7 grams of carbs in it..one spear of broccoli has about 10 grams of carbs in it...how many carbs are you supposed to be eating per meal? How much do your vegetables add up to? Does this make it into your 40/40/20 BFL split of foods? They dont contain air and must be accounted for somewhere IMHO! Yes eat LOTS of veggies BUT like anything you are eating, make good choices and eat in moderation... Guest guest
Hi, anyone remember me? Yet another " oldtimer " who's let herself drop off plan and gain weight..<sigh> But that is not what I've chimed in today. I can't agree with the idea that you can upset your progress by eating veggies. I have never, ever known anyone to get fat from veggies. And, as I understand it, carbs counts are assessed by burning up an item and analyzing the energy output (some method I've read about but didn't retain well enough to give exact details). Your body does not work that way. Although we are omnivors, and meant to have veggies, our stomachs are not good at digesting them, so a portion of them pass through without imparting their full carb load. Does anyone know if any kind of study has ever been done to see how much we actually retain from veggies? Just curious. I'm not going to alter my veggie eating, if I'm munching on broccoli I'm not eating chips...a good trade off for me. Alys who is trying, once again, to get on board and be healthy. Guest guest
Alys, I remember in a nutrion class I took in college a few years back the prof. saying that certain vegetables actually require more calories to digest than they provide. I remember for sure that celery was one of them, because right after all the girls went on a " celery diet. " LOL But this wasn't a diet gimmick; it was a nutrition college course, so I think you're on to something. I've just always heard to stay away from the high-sugar, starchy veggies, such as peas, corn, carrots and beats. But, of course, given the choice between potatoe chips or carrots, the carrots win hands down. It's just a matter of perspective. I really don't like veggies, cooked or raw. I try to eat two serving a day, but I barely manage that. > Hi, anyone remember me? Great attitude, Alys I completely agree. It's all about those healthy lifestyle changes and veggies are healthy change Serenity
