Guest guest
Just a thought, but if anyone is a Methodist and your church is collecting, the relief efforts will go directly thru UMCOR and it will go where it is needed the most. After 9/11, we got aid from UMCOR- it went directly to those who needed it. We got grants for counseling since no one from our church was a victim, but those who needed it for victim relief, it was available. Giving my donation on sunday- know it will go thru UMCOR and get to where it needs to go.

Guest guest
On Wednesday I went to the hole in the wall at the bank, and got a mini statement, took my card out and left the money in the machine! I went down to the pharmacy where I discovered My idiocy and ran back to the bank to find the money gone. I was not a happy bunny, I can't afford to lose money like that but needed to take the same amount out again so I could buy the stuff from the pharmacy. Later, when the bank opened I went in and found to my relief that the machine had eaten my money and it hadn't gone AWOL to someone elses pocket as I'd orignally thought. Anyway, cut a long story short, I figured if I was prepared to be over drawn becoz some one had nicked my money then maybe I should just donate that money now that it was returned, after all I am alive and well and so is my family, I have a warm and secure house and plenty of food to eat. I am still over drawn but my donation, based on the paltry amounts that people in asia earn and live on, is enough to build a small house for a family, here it is half my weekly grocery bill. And I had to laugh, not that this is a situation for laughter, but I did anyway, cynical laughter, at the response of the British govenrment. Initially it pledged 15 million pounds, but literally over the last 48 hours the british public has pledged something like 37 million pounds, so the government, not to be outdone by its public, raised the amount of government rrelief to 50 million. Wonder if it will continue to outpledge us?! Its still only a drop in the ocean but I am amazed at the response of the public and govenrment, hope it continues and that the relief is being delivered to places that need it. sue wong Disaster relief donations. > > Hi, > I feel so blessed to live in this country where we have so much. Guest guest
Thanks Joy for sharing this. I've looked at the list of organizations accepting donations, but haven't had the time to look up what percentage actually goes to those who are being served. You saved me alot of time! Yes, the Salvation Army is a good organization - they are just about everywhere (except Target stores!). --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
We donated to the red cross- they also have the " ability " for you to donate to whatever cause you like. Sorry but the people who designated their donation expected their money to be used to go to help the people effected by the closings of business, loss of jobs and this did not only include people who worked in the Trade towers or who lost their family members on those planes....well it's one reason I don't donate to the Red Cross. As I said, there are a few different reasons I've arrived at my decision, but I have no problem if you feel they are a good cost effective way of helping out. :-) I prefer the non listed Salvation Army. :-) Joy
