Guest guest
It's pretty articy here today. All the snow that Tim shoveled got blown back. Serves him right for shoveling snow on me yesterday. I went to the store and had to back out in a snow drift. When I came back, you could not tell where I left - had to make 4 attempts to pull up close to the garage door (where half is full of junk and the other half with the corvette -it's days like this that I wish TJ didn't have that thing--URGHH!). The store was pretty empty - pretty unusual for Sunday afternoon. The clerks said everyone was in on Friday and Saturday - including Krispy Kremes which did not make a delivery today (explain that one to !). I did pass Oliver North on my way out - I'm pretty sure that was him. It's a good day for Shepards Pie - I have a super easy recipe if anyone is interested. Guest guest
Received several photos this morning of the recent snow falls in New Jersey and Buffalo, don't know what you are complaining about - looks so lovely and white. Also gives the kids something to do, my friends sons busy building a snow ramp - which apparently they keep adding to all winter long. Kathy we have lots of warm beaches - need to pack up and come over for a holiday - Shannen is heading there today probably come home fried. Sue - the south end of Oz. isn't always warm - yes I know it is summer at the moment - but we still don't like a week of hot hot weather especially the week the kids go back to school, poor little angels don't know what has hit them - hot stuffy class rooms, warm sandwiches ugh! Keep smiling all, Jan, mother of Trent 20yo w/DS - from the Land DownUnder

Ahhh, the benefits of living out of from a city. We don't have side walks - just the driveway which could hold 6-8 parked cars, but we keep four cars parked in the driveway. Tim likes to compete with the neighbors when it comes to shoveling snow. The older woman living next door beat him yesterday - and the women across the street didnt' even bother (probably because they knew the wind would blow it right back) until today (but in his eyes, he beat them). Kathy - do you have to get someone to watch Liam while you shovel? I know the District charges people as well and they tow cars when a snow emergency has been called (which costs 250.00). I watched a news story about NY suing a 90 something woman who didn't shovel her walk - God bless her - she's going to fight city hall! --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
We usually use the " Wait for it to melt " method. We don't have sidewalks either and no one tells us we have to clear it. We don't usually have those real big snowfalls here, altho it has happened. We had about 9 inches at once in Dec. and then in early Jan. we had an ice storm with a little snow on top. That was hard on trees and wires. Our electricity was off for 25 hours and of course that included overnight so we had one miserable night with no heat. A lot of people have been worse off though. I grew up in Northern Minnesota and that was COLD sometimes. Sometimes we would have 3 or 4 feet of snow on the ground . (Of, course we had to walk 5 miles to school, uphill both ways). So winters now don't seem too bad. Actually, I did walk either a half mile or a mile, depending on the bus route, and then ride a rickety bus 25 miles to school. This was in high school. Guest guest
Now ladies stop complaining about the shovelling - think of all the calories you are burning and the muscles that are being tightened - so by summer those figures will be just right for the bikinis! Must admit if I had to go outside and spend some time shovelling - Trent would think it was great - he could easily 'play' on the phone without my knowledge. I try and do it when he's asleep. I did a little yesterday (front steps & a little of my walk), popping in every few minutes to watch him. Barney was on so he was pretty engrossed. I left the door open to my tenant's downstairs and asked him to keep an ear open. I flagged down a few guys and paid them to do the majority of it. It's much cheaper than fines. Plus I live on a block with a church and think some little old lady's going to fall on my walk. Usually my brother and nephew come over, but they got hit with the flu. Guest guest
Hi Down here in Southwest Mo., about 100 miles south of Jessie, people think we have awful winters but they've never lived to or been to the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or the Northeast. Actually we have pretty mild winters down here. Once in a while we get the effects of an Arctic high and it is cold for a week or so. We don't get that much snow. Usually when it snows, it snows less than an inch. We get 1 or 2 big snows (4 or more inches a year) and usually one ice or sleet storm. This month our big highlight has been thunderstorms. We had four inches of rain one on day about two weeks ago. The creeks came out of their banks like it was spring. There is an old saying thunder in January, frost in May. So it might frost in May. It frosted May 15 one time. But usually after March 21, all danger of snow is past and after April 1, all danger of frost is past. of course, there are exceptions.
