Guest guest
On flip side..... I had tonsilitis for a year and a half straight. I know have permenant scars from that infection that my body wasn't fighting. I have noticable voice cracks when trying to sing(this didn't happen before, I was a pretty good singer as a child). Brit had to have her tonsils out so that she could breath. When dealing with our children, sometimes there is no other option. If it weren't for surgery for her tonsils, and a tracheostomy she wouldn't be alive today. The infection that causes tonsilitis can and does move from the tonsils. I wouldn't advise an asthmatic to keep the tonsils if they are constantly infected. On the flip side. I wouldn't get rid of them unless there is frequent trouble or breathing problems from apnea. Hugs Beth http://www.tracheostomy.com/trachkids/kids2/brittany.htm I am the " special needs " child. I am your teacher. If you allow me, I will teach you what is really important in life. I will give you and teach you unconditional love. I gift you with my innocent trust and my total dependency. I teach you about how precious this life is and about not taking things for granted. Guest guest
I agree, Nic's tonsils were touching, it really affected his breathing. Di Re: Adenoids, Surgery, etc. On flip side..... Guest guest
- hope you don't think I am picking on you. I'm more anti-drug than you may think. But, I don't believe 100% in what you wrote below. My mother developed strep throat as a child. That turned into rheumatic fever- where she spent alot of time in a hospital instead of being in school with her peers. She lost alot of her childhood. That also meant dying young due to the damage that was done to her heart from rheumatic fever (which was listed on her death certificate years later). I believe God helps scientists and doctors come up with medications that can heal. Had my mother had an antibiotic when she only had strep, I probably would still have her with me today. For my children, I don't play around with things others may see as minor or something a child could just work through. I let those with medical degrees decide. Three weeks ago, my youngest daughter had signs of a bladder infection. We went to urgent care where it was packed. She wanted to leave so I bought cranberry juice and something over the counter. The next day, she was in the hospital hooked up to IV's. Thank God for the power of medicine. Her doctor was concerned that her kidneys could become damaged, which could complicate any pregnancies she would have in the future. For myself, I quit taking all my medications for lupus last March. One was no longer available in the US and could only be obtained through a compounding pharmacy. One could potentially damage my eyes. I started with one medication and ended with 5-6 different ones each day. I consulted with my GP first, then went off everything but OTC antihistimines (taken PRN only) and allergy shots. I'm actually doing better off meds than on them! I'm still followed by my GP - but now only every six months. And one of my biggest pet peeves in life is going to a doctor's office and having a drug rep take our scheduled time (which puts us behind) pitching their sales. I get even more infuriated when they bring medical offices lunch from gourmet places. Prescription costs could be alot lower if it weren't for these perks. I respect those doctors who decline all the freebies (Dr. Len is one of them) except samples. Ok, enough for now > I am a firm believer that whatever God put in our bodies is there > for a reason. Guest guest
- I appreciate your comments. I used to have a very good pediatrician and I depended on his advice when was younger. He did not believe in taking antibiotics unnecessarily and once had strep throat and worked through it without taking them. One does need a good holistic pediatrician and since mine has retired I am looking for a new one. What I did for 's bronchitis was very simple and I am quite familiar with this issue. I would not treat him on my own for more serious matters. I do believe that antibiotics, penicillin and other pharmaceuticals are life savers and must be used when indicated. I am about advocating for your own health and not always looking to doctor's that are trained in specific modalities which are taught to them by the drug reps. This type of doctor can do two things, prescribe or remove. I have seen too many people, my parents included, that get on a cycle of drugs, side-effects, more drugs, more side-effects. I am a wellness consultant and work with people who are interested in taking control of their health naturally. Regards, Re: Adenoids, Surgery, etc. - hope you don't think I am picking on you.
