Guest guest
Hi, I'm , located just outside of Tucson, Az. Married to for 24 years. We have a little land and a lot of critters. We are in the process of adopting our 6th and have 2 more foster children that we may be able to adopt. Our oldest 2 are 27 and 21 and no longer at home. At home we have Shalana, 18 (going to culinary school and we ALL want to help her with her homework), Levi 15 (need I say more?) Maverick 14, and we are adopting Chip 22 months. At this time we have 3 foster children also. Maverick is our child with down syndrome. He had open heart surgery at 4 1/2 months..A/V canal. He had a 5% chance of survival. You can't keep him still now. His strength is his physical ability. He rides bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, (although he prefers skates). He plays most sports and is very competitive at them. He is on the go all the time. He is fully included in the 8th grade and is very social. He does well academically, but I feel he could do much better if the school understood modification better and if he weren't the only one fully included and there were others doing work that was a bit " different " and it was more accepted. He is very aware of that. He plays the drums and is very good at that. He is in confirmation. I ordered an adapted cirriculum and we have a mentor who attends class with him, (mainly to protect him from those UNRULY Jr. High boys and because he hates having mom or dad there!!) He also participates in 4H, showing swine with his brother and sister, no accomodations there and sells his pig at the auction every year. He is inspiring to us every day when we see him overcoming so many obstacles and not even realizing it. M.
