Hi

My name is Joanie and my husband is Jeff. We have two boys, who is 8 and

is 3 1/2. We didn't know that had DS until the day after he was

born and I have always said I am glad I didn't know. He had a bout of seizures

(infantile spasms) when he was 6 months old and after a long summer we finally

found a treatment that worked and he has been seizure-free ever since. He was

a late walker, he didn't start walking until he was about 4 1/2. He is on his

fifth set of ear tubes but as long as they are in place and not blocked, he is

pretty healthy except for his constantly runny nose. I love it when he goes a

week without needing kleenex! He was officially diagnosed with Autism about 2

years ago although we had suspected it for awhile. He is tall and skinny, he

only weighs about 47 lbs. He attends a special school and is in a small

classroom with about 6 other children who either have DS or Autism. Although I

would love for him to be able to attend a local elementary school, we think this

is the best place for him right now. He loves riding the bus and going to

school each day. A routine is very important to him.

Little brother is a very loving boy who loves to run and play and watch

videos. His speech is very advanced for his age and he never quits talking!

I am a Pharmacy Technician working in a local independant pharmacy for the past

19 years. Jeff was my high-school sweetheart who changed careers a few years

ago and is now working as an Assistant Manager at Mcs. Both of us working

full-time and raising two boys keeps us busy so I love lurking on this list. It

is nice to know I am not alone.

Joanie
