Guest guest
Hi My name is Shipp, husband to C. in Missouri and father to , Kristi, , and . is 14 and has Down syndrome and problems with his thyroid. He has put himself on a strict diet and lost over 40 lbs. the past year. He is very interested in science and history, is in the choir at school, and active in 4H, scouting, swimming, and traveling. He also likes to go to church. Kristi is 13 and has Down syndrome and is our healthiest child. She sees the doctor so rarely that he often forgets we have her. Kristi is starting to come out of her shell and last night performed an excellent performance at her music instructor's Christmas party (or after Christmas party) is 12 and has Down syndrome and 12 other diagnosies, ranging from celiac disease and rheumatoid arthritis to tourette's syndrome and chronic anemia. Like , is active in 4H and scouting and loves to travel and take swimming lessons in the summer. is 7 and has Cri du chat syndrome and 4 or 5 other neurological-behavior disorders. He is our challenge child and goes to a special state school where as the other kids all go to regular public school. We are both stay at home parents. I taught for awhile but quit after it became too conflicting with family obligations. Now I am going to try a stab at social work. I start next week as a part time case manager for a local mental health agency. If part times works out ok, I will go full time. But my family is more important than any job. I would love to start a business and/or use my four degrees but home obligations come first. But it's whatever God has in his plan--maybe more kids, maybe a home business, maybe a regular job juggled with family. We live in southwest Missouri about halfway between Kansas City, the largest city in the state and Branson, the entertainment capital of the Midwest/South. We are on the edge of the Ozarks and less than 100 miles from where the Deep South begins so we are a unique mixture of Midwest, Southwest, and Southern heritage. We have two wonderful nieces in California who hopefully will be moving to Missouri next summer. and are 4 and 9 and both have Down syndrome. With them included, we have six kids! We have numerous pets and also like to collect things. Both of us are voracious readers and writers. Enough about us. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
