Guest guest
I am Gundula, living in Germany, originally from Canada. (I had German parents, hence the German name I have three boys from my first marriage, all sort of out of the house now. They are 25, 23 and 19. And then my little Fiona from my second marriage, next week she'll be 8, who has DS. My 25 year old just was diagnosed with rheumatism and had to break off his bike trip that he was doing around the world. Lots of stuff on his home page is in english. http://www.buschnick.net/ He is a programmer. The 23 year old is an OT and is living in town about 20 km from us. He has a very active band and they are just producing their second CD. http://www.edible-rock.net/ He is an ADHD kid grown up ) and putting all of that extra energy into his music. He is also very dyslexic and has only recently learned to read sheet music. Until now he played everything be ear. The 19 year old has been going to university since he was 17. He has crohns disease, asthma, etc and has spent alot of time in hospitals. At the moment he seems to be having a break and things are going relatively well. My husband is a doc and works in a hospital about 20 km from here. I am an OT and have my own practice here in our house. Next week I am in hospital for surgery on my knee. Fiona is in an inclusive grade one class in a neighboring village. It still is not standard here to have kids with disabilities in normal schools. Its working out well tho, even tho I have to drive her back and forth every day. We don't qualify for a bus because I had to register at a friends house that we were residents of that village so that Fiona could get the school placing. She has had heart surgery and a long, long list of health issues. She is off oxygen at night now, sometimes still needs her monitor, mostly sleeps thru the night in her own bed !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and is eating solids now for the last 2 years approximately. She is tiny but for the last 2 years we have had no emergency rooms, no intensive care units, no panic rushes to the hospitals. What more could we want? So we have too much time on our hands (???) and have applied for a foster child with DS, but are still waiting. Gundula
