Do you have any suggestions " Doll, Kim L " <KLDoll@...> wrote:Welcome to the group. -Thanks! Kim HI - I'm New !!!!!!!!!!! Hello. My name is Kim. I am a SAHM of 4. I have 5 year old twins (Boy- Ali, Girl- Jennah), a 3 year old son, Noah --- and my little guy Reiyan (pronounced Ray Yawn). Reiyan is 11 months old and has DS - he is also a 27 week preemie. Just so that you can get to know him - He has a lot of medical problems - challenges. He has 4 problems with his lungs (3 are caused by prematurity and one becasue of Downs) he has - Pulmonary Hypertention (caused by Downs) he also has Hypoplatia (small lungs) and CLD (cronic lung disease) and his arteries going into his lungs are small. To top all this off he had a Heart Defect (which I'm sue many of you have had to deal with) ASD - repaired after he had heart failure on 4th of July weekend. He had Failure to thrive so now he has a fundoplication (wrapping the stomache around the esophagus so he can't throw up) and a g-tube (which has been a bit of a struggle getting to understand how much my son needs etc... These are his major problems - he also has clogged tear ducts and completely closed ear canals so his hearing is quite muffled. The doctors say 50% deaf in one ear and 75% deaf in the other. I only told you this to get to know him - as far as his downs goes - he has very low muscle tone and is only just now starting to roll over and if he does roll to his tummy - his arms get stuck - He is a total charmer - the Nurses love him - he is very visual and vocal. I sent a pic to go along with this email Thanks for letting me in on your group! Kim --------------------------------- Do you ? Send holiday email and support a worthy cause. Do good. Guest guest
Hi, Kim, Welcome to the group. Sorry to hear that little Reiyan's plate is so full just now, too many issues. Just tell him to do the best he can. That first year or two can be pretty rugged. My son Charlie was a 30 weeker, and probably thanks to IUGR birth weight was only 1130 grams, just less than 2 1/2 lbs. Early on his main issue was congenital cataracts, had his first cataract surgery at 6 days old. Took him a full 10 weeks to graduate NICU. But he's 5 1/2 yrs old now and pretty darn healthy. Know of a couple of kids who had that difficult combination, preemie with Ds. I didn't get to see Reiyan's picture because I read the archives on the web. My loss. If you wanted to check out my guy, his web page is at http://home.earthlink.net/~wrblack/ Regards, Bob, Charlie's dad

When I was in college, Middle Tenn. State, there was a snowstorm, and I use that term lightly as there was all of maybe 2 inches. We (my brother and I) were driving and there were accidents all over the place. Growing up in New York with the traffic and the snow I was amazed at how a little snow could cause everything to come to a halt in Tenn. It was really funny!
