I totally agree. Give her a word to use instead...like Blueberry, or

pickles...(a favorite word of my 4 yr old right now)... and then ignore the

" stupid "

word. Believe me it gets worse...LOL.

Kris,

Sounds like you have just about tried everything - Trent use to

enjoy swearing - yes that particular four lettered word followed by

shit - except he would say it with a 'b' sound. So Buck shit - I

then had the problem because buck isn't a swear word his siblings

decided that they could say buck - fortunately put a stop to that

quickly. As to Trent - it really seemed to just disappear -

although occasionally he will drop it - wholly and soley for

reaction. He is very quickly told off in a stern voice, he laughs

and that is it until the next time.

I feel that Sierra is saying stupid now for reaction, so maybe

another bout of ignoring may be the answer. Otherwise

bribery/blackmail - Santa doesn't leave pressies for girls who say

stupid all the time!

All the best,

Jan, mother of Trent 20yo w/DS - 7 more sleeps and I'm getting

really excited.

I remember when learned the word " retard. " The teachers were horrified

that HE of all people would say such a thing!! LOL I told them very definitely

that he did NOT learn that word at home, so guess where he learned it. They had

me come in and do " the DS talk. " He still says it from time to time. I have

had to take away things to extinguish some of his behaviors. He has had videos

and tv priveleges revoked for that.

stopping bad language

Hi everyone:

I have a tricky situation I'm trying to deal with Sierra. She learned the

word STUPID from school and guess what?? She won't stop saying it, very

loudly, non-stop. It has become such a problem on the bus. We've tried

incentives

to stop it; ignoring her, giving stickers, playing kids' music, praise,

telling her that is a mean word and hurts peoples' feelings etc etc. I'll

tell

her, remember to be nice, no mean words, saying stupid is mean etc. She'll

say " happy? " after I tell her this. Then I say " Yes, happy, use happy words

to

make people happy not sad. " No bad words, ok. " Oh, ok " , she says. At

home, we've ignored it, put her in time-out, shut off her music, tapped her

on

the mouth. I know she is trying out this new word, but come on already! Of

all the words to pick up and continue to repeat VERY LOUDLY!! Any

suggestions

to get her to see the seriousness of such words and get her to quit saying

it?? It's really becoming a problem and the bus driver has had to pull over

since she continues to say it loud enough to upset the kids on the bus and

interfere with safe driving. HELP!!

calls people dork, geek and loser- what are big siblings for??? I

think if he did this at school, people wouldn't realize what he is saying

(yet)- except he makes the L sign on his forehead when he says loser. Hey

dork is a pretty common greeting for him and his brother...lol. I turned on

my cell phone once and saw Mom is a dork - oh, kids, you gotta love them.

TJ did take to get his haircut and he came home looking just like

him...sigh! TJ looks great with a military haircut, but 's needs to

be a bit longer on top to cover up his cowlicks.

comes home in 20 days!!! We are starting to talk about her coming

home. knows that we will go to the airport to pick her up. Poor

kid, the other day the doorbell rang and he got excited and said "

home? " .

Oh yea, we also saw Polar Express this past weekend - loved it!
