Guest guest
Hi, anyone got any experience of this medication? Tim has been prescribed the paediatric version of it and a smaller dose than for typical 11 year olds. I am told he needs two sachets for two days, 4 for two days then 6 for two days by which time we should see him pooh for china! I'm a little concerned becoz I am not convinced (and never have been) that tims soiling is caused by constipation and this medication is a drastic last step before a bowel washout under sedation (if this doesn't work). I'm seeing an alternative medicine doctor in january, hopefully for dietary controls. I'm really dreading giving him this stuff and think I may have to go buy shares in pampers! The surgeon won't consider any reason other than constiipation for the soiling, I think he simply can't control the muscles that normally stop people from soiling (forget the name of them) and that he lacks normal sensation that tells us we need to go. But the surgeon insists its constipation. Anyway, any experience/advice on what to expect appreciated. Guest guest
Kids calm ( Mg Citrate), comes up a lot on the GAPS forum and the Miralax forums( movicol in US). Its worth joining these. Also Dr N McBride recommends regular enemas. What probiotics do you use ? Sometimes a different brand/amount can make all the difference. Has he been on the Gaps diet for long? Is it the GP or the paediatrician or the gastro that recommended 8 sachets of movicol? Is he under a gastro?Just that my son (and he was 13 yrs old at the time) was on that amount of sachets for a few months and the gastro was v concerned that he wasn't getting better and proceeded to do a colonoscopy. He was on lactolose for some time before it stopped working, then Senna and now on large doses of Movacol (8 sachets daily). Does anyone else use this or know of anything negative about using it? If we don't use it then he will not pass anything but I'm not happy given the chemicals used.I've tried magnesium and vit C in the past but to no avail. Have also used Oxy-powder but read something that it could irritate the gut lining - does anyone know anything further? > > > > > > > > Thanks in advance, > > > > > > > > Janet > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
The last hospital doc (gastro) we saw put him back on Movicol at the dose of 8 sachets. He had been on it previously at a lower dose but it hadn't done anything-at that point (another) dr in the team we saw on the day but him on 15mls Senna. The Senna worked in terms of passing stools but we were finding all that was happening was runny stools were just by-passing an impaction so we went back. They then put him on the 8 sachets. In terms of a colonoscopy what is the purpose of doing that - wouldn't an X-ray show up what was needed? Was your son managing on the sachets or was nothing happening? We've been told our ds will be on laxatives for some considerable time and they wont be testing him for anything. It seems to depend on who you see and what their own opinion is from our own experience. It's good to hear other peoples' accounts to educate us a bit more on it all!JanetAutism Treatment From: mmcivor@...Date: Wed, 13 Oct 2010 09:53:20 +0000Subject: Re: Movicol Kids calm ( Mg Citrate), comes up a lot on the GAPS forum and the Miralax forums( movicol in US).
