Guest guest
According to a new study by Athens University Medical School Greeks don't care about their health. They smoke, drink and eat badly. The result is they lose an average of 10 years of life. The study, " Hellas Health É " , was done by interviewing a representative sample of 1000 Greeks above 18 years of age. The results show that women and individuals of lower socio-economic groups reported a lower quality of life in all respects, while the residents of urban centers reported a better quality of life than the rural residents. With regard to diet the study showed that consumption of red meat and sweets is increasing, while consumption of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and fish is declining. The study found that 49.9% of adult men and a 30.8% of adult women are regular smokers, while the 34.5% of men and the 44.7% of women are sedentary. In 1990 Greece ranked third in life expectancy internationally, and has since dropped to 8th in 2001 and 12th in 2005. " I would say that we are in front of a phenomenon that can be characterized as a tendency for mass suicide of Greeks " said Social Medicine professor Dr.Yiannis Tountas who was responsible for the study.
