Guest guest
Just so you know, based on what you wrote, I agree with you and you must be smarter than me for having taken the time to write it. As a group (chiropractors) we concentrate on what our minor professional differences are and not the vast things we have in common. My personal opinion is that I don’t think that any OT topics have a place on this list serve. To allow these OT items just takes us off the commonality of our purpose. We will never agree on these other topics and we do not need to. Their will always be Christians, Buddhists, Islam, basket ball players, volley ball players, runners and on and on. These portions of our lives do not have to have commonality of agreement. We need to be at peace with ourselves and follow our inner words of knowledge, not beat each other up with how the world looks from the top of our ant hill. This list serve and our profession have to do with Chiropractic the noun and chiropractic the verb. Let’s build unity within the commonality and leave the rest outside our professional lives. If these other items belonged in the professional purview the OBCE would have jurisdiction over them. Of course, that is just my opinion. Larry Lubcke, DC, DABCO OT: political comments?? Dear Colleagues: A recent post has left me concerned regarding just how hazardous it is to express a political opinion in a group of chiropractors. Certainly we all hold fast the notion only our own concepts represent the " real " chiropractic. I have yet to meet a fellow DC who was less than enthusiastic about their own opinion regarding economic theory, political persuasion or religious belief. Reluctantly I have come to the conclusion that most will either feign indifference to my own cherished notions on these matters, or even express contempt if not outright hostility. Personally I no longer am surprised at, nor polarized by, those who hold differing opinions. In fact, I EXPECT diversity of opinion. I am thankful for this board for the opportunity to express my viewpoint should I choose to do so, and for a minimalistic structure which imposes a modicum of restraint on both my own enthusiasm as well as those annoying individuals critical of my so-well reasoned opinions. In a country founded on the concept of freedom of political expression and differing opinions, whether or not I agree with the Prez of CAO is of less import than what goals and activities the CAO pursues. That he continues to encourage my own otherwise embarassingly moribund activities in the advancement of our beleagured profession is a daily blessing. Being of one mind on any issue has never been a historical fact in any chiropractic group. Just as we all may make a physical diagnosis based on different evaluation procedures, it often is the case we utilize differing techniques to achieve similar goals, rhetoric nothwithstanding. I continue to restrain myself from posting my own enlightened political comments simply because 1) those who agree don't need to hear about them; and 2) those who would benefit most from them are going to reject them as antithetical to their own cherished beliefs anyway. While I maintain interest in learning what my colleagues think they believe politically, I urge them one and all to realize our solutions to complex social issues, however elaborate or intensely advocated, ultimately do not solve any more problems for one group than they create for others. Guest guest
I agree. I would prefer our list serve address only Chiropractic, and those that want to have political or other discussions do it among themselves. The reason that I am on the list serve is to focus MORE on chiropractic, and to stay abreast of all of the significant changes in our profession. Guest guest
Joyce, Larry, Jack, , et.al., I for one like the diversity of views expressed on the list serve, from Uncle Vern’s conservative rants to others’ more liberal bias. (By the way, what ever happened to Dr Shephard? He was always good for a view from the right side of the dial.) OT makes for more of a “community” in my view. And while chiropractic is (and should be) the primary focus of the listserve, there is more to life than our profession. The solution to OT for those who would rather not is a limber finger on the “delete” button. Guest guest
Chuck, and others While I respect your desire to have a well-rounded perspectice, I find the number of emails coming through so daunting that it is frustrating. Consequently, it feels as if I am hunting through all the extraneous emails to find the pearls... Having appropriate subject lines does help. But I would just as soon not see a bunch of Kerry v Bush or Iraq issues on the listserv. Thanks for listening! Joyce Joyce D. McClure DC PC RE: OT: political comments?? Guest guest
Joyce, I completely agree. This is a professional chiropractic group and topics should be related to this interest. OCCASIONAL OT's are fine, but they dilute the ability it get the really pertinent messages across. Political opinions are extremely important in reference to health care issues. Thank you Vern! Otherwise we're just projecting more spam to consume an already too busy life and reduce our productivity. Guest guest
I'm with Joyce and you Ted I for one have to many things to do prior to the state of the 2005 session...things that if we win the day could significantly help us help the folks we have the professional privilege of treating. Speaking of Oregon politics I'd like to thank the doctors who came to today's lunch fundraiser for Rep. Dennis down in Central Point. Dennis is a PI attorney and a chiropractic patient as is his wife and children he is a huge advocate for us in Salem. Rep. wishes to become Speaker Pro Tem which means when the Speaker is not in the Capitol he is the Speaker of the House! Which also means he will be in a very small power group who will determine who Chairs which committees, which bills go to which committees, and simply which bills live and which bills should die and never see the light of day! ICE PAC has contributed $500 to his campaign (I wish it could of been $5000) and doctors wrote checks today at lunch THANK YOU! Also thank you Dr. Mike Vissers of Canby who could not make the trip to Central Point today but who nonetheless gave me a $100 check for Rep. . Seems Dr. Vissers was busy pounding lawn signs in the ground for his father in law the Majority Leader Rep. Wayne ...and so it goes doctors all across the state have stepped up and started to get involved and have been doing so for the last two years....since the end of the 2003 session....and it's all going to help us more than you can know this coming legislative session. Got a call from a trucking agency as I drove down I-5 headed for Central Point seems our $4,200 treatment table donated by Lloyd's Table Co. will be delivered to our chiropractic treatment room at the capitol tomorrow!!! Ah....and the hits just keep coming in! have a great Friday, Vern Saboe RE: OT: political comments?? Guest guest
Ron; The closest thing I have found to a platform position on chiropractic for these candidates is that Kerry says he has the backbone to stand up to Al Queda, while Bush says that Kerry is spineless. So, there we are, split opinion once again. Les Re: OT: political comments?? Thanks for getting involved politically, , we all need to protect our profession and our therefore our livelihood, and not repeat our past mistake of either being asleep or predominately supporting one political party. In the early 90's our former lobbyist masde the mistake of supporting aout 98%one party that was in control, and when the other party came into power we were SOL. It seems like either party will screw us if we are not diligent on the grass roots level. BTW, does anybody have any platform or candidate statements about Chiropractic from Kerry or Bush? Guest guest
Thanks , this is the kind of political info we need to be addressing on this listserve. We cannot afford to be indifferent to the world of politics. We in Oregon should be especially sensitive to this issue.(Need I mention WC 1991) Schneider
