By chance I stumbled on to the ASB national meeting in Portland this last week. I attended a few of the presentations and was astounded that I had never heard of this organization and how relevant a lot of the research was to Chiropractic. I purchased the bound book of abstracts that the presenters were speaking on. I talked to a few of the vendors, one who had sensors and a software program to assess motion ie altheles in motion and one who had a floor pad that showed distribution of weight on the feet. The vendor for the 'motion' program said four of their systems were at Palmer. The ASB ismainly for researchers ... if only there were Chiropractic researchers there too.

Ravid, It is great to hear that Dr. Khalsa was at the ASB ( and his grad students ,who I am sure, know his background) and that he does basic research which is so very needed in our field. It is also wonderful that he made the effort to go to WSCC and speak - did he make the contact or did WSCC ? This information , including the existence of the ASB ,needs to get out to the profession and abstracts ie the one I posted, need to be put square in front of us so we can stay 'cutting edge'. Better yet it would have been nice to have included the profession to hear Dr. Khalsa speak.

Thanks for the info. I would have never known about this except my 'stumbling' onto the ASB annual meeting.

OregonDCs rules:1. Keep correspondence professional; the purpose of the listserve is to foster communication and collegiality. No personal attacks on listserve members will be tolerated.2. Always sign your e-mails with your first and last name.3. The listserve is not secure; your e-mail could end up anywhere. However, it is against the rules of the listserve to copy, print, forward, or otherwise distribute correspondence written by another member without his or her consent, unless all personal identifiers have been removed.

Ravid,

Sharron brings up a side point I wanted to flesh out. I would love to see an increased presence of WSCC in forums such as this one. I would have liked to attend the ASB conference and the Khalsa presentation if I had known. Those of us in the field who would like to stay abreast of changes in the field, such as newly updated/published treatment protocols and procedures, and upcoming speakers, etc., would like it if our alma mater could step up a bit better in this community service/continuing ed. department. Given the relatively recent change in leadership at WSCC, perhaps the timing might be right for developing a better community outreach and mending some of the fences between alumni and the college. This mixing between field doctors and the students would be mutually beneficial as many of the current faculty no longer practices, and many of the field docs tend to develop deficits in care and treatment of certain conditions infrequently seen, but so thoroughly tested for while in school :) Comments anyone?

PS: Ravid, feel free to forward this message to the appropriate "powers that be" at WSCC.

and all:

What else would you suggest the school

start doing to garner support from alumni? Are there other programs / services

you might think of that would benefit both the school and the alumni?
