When I was a parent rep last summer, a lot of the middle school kids had

guidance counseling as a regularly scheduled event. They tried to put kids in

small groups so they had peers to discuss issues with. It's also less

stigmatizing if a number of kids have it instead of just one. The

justifications were

to help them adapt to the middle school environment (changing teachers and

classrooms, adhering to schedules), discuss problems they encounter in the

classroom with work and with homework and to foster communications and

socialization

with classmates.

Oh my goodness kathy do you ever get to do NYTHING easy ??? LOL!!! We are

renovating here also so I am with you on that but MOVING ALSO. Oh man are you

up to your neck!!! Will be thinking about you. Try not to overdue (look whose

talking the queen of let's hurry up and get it done). Keep us posted on the

abcess thing. How in the world did you get it? Do they have a clue? Hope all

is back to semi normal soon. I know in our house normal is non-existent to the

world.

HI

Just an update and also let you all know I have not disappeared lol I am

probably the busiest person out here lol well it feels like it

Middle School (new to us) started Aug 9th and I had to immediately call an

IEP meeting the second day of school lol while I was preparing for this

meeting

scheduled for Aug 16th ..... I was also in the middle of a remodeling job (my

kitchen) 2 days before my IEP meeting (Saturday while painting) I noticed a

huge bump on my head. I knew I had not hit it, Ive been glued to my kitchen

with

nothing over me but the ceiling. By Saturday afternoon with tons of phone

conversations with a paranoid baby sister demanding that I go to the DR ......

I

did I went to the urgent care and was told I had a brain abscess and was

put on antibiotics. I called my DR on Monday (after my meeting lol) and she

was

very concerned. I guess this wasn't something to play around with. The

swelling is gone down but Im still having coordination issues and vision

issues,

which I was told would disappear soon Thank goodness a friend went with me

to

my IEP meeting, I needed vision help and help staying on task. The meeting

went pretty good, got all we needed EXCEPT for guidance councilor services

....................... I am pushing this issue since its a related service

we've

always had in Sara's program ................... Does anyone else have this

wrote up in their IEP?????????????????? I need help with this so if anyone has

Week 3 of school Sara and her best friend came down with a nasty bug

and missed 2 days of school. I'm back to painting and my oldest daughter is

working on my upstairs painting. why you may ask is Kathy painting and doing

all

of these fixer up projects???

Well, (haven't told a soul here yet so I'm whispering lol) ............WE ARE

MOVING!!!!!!! and I have to get the house ready to sell. I am not really

excited about all of this, Im still in my pity party state from losing my Mom

.......... God works like a man, he's overwhelmed me with tasks and now I

don't

have time for pity parties lol

We are off to Nashville, my sister (The same paranoid baby sis who called me

10 times to get me to go to the DR lol) is so tickled that Im coming, that

she's even taking in my hubby on the 1st until the kids and I get there.

it may be months, truthfully I hope long enough for Beth to get my hubby

retrained in the household dept. lol he's such a mess lol Soooooo if anyone

heads

Nashville way you'll have to give me a holler. My hubby tried to sell me on

this

move with " hey we will be closer to the beach " lolol its a 9 hr drive from

here and maybe 5-7 from Nashville lol

Oh well I think I may be up for a change but I do pray my oldest daughter

will soon follow me. She is my best friend and I don't know what I'll do

without

her.

OK this is tooo long, I am reading all mail (Im a week behind right now lol)

and Ive saved tons to answer or comment on but then this vision thing hit and

paint and well you all know I plan to read emails at night and work like a

dog during the day. I was painting what it seemed like 24-7, that has to stop

lol.

I will be back later on with .... WHAT DO I DO ABOUT RELOCATING SARA AND HER

IEP lol I know a lot of you all have moved, right now Im playing a Scarlet,

I'll worry about that tomorrow

Hi Loree

About the brain abscess ................ my DR thinks my came from a sinus

infection. I've had a few headaches lately .... thought it was stress lol and

Ive never gone to the DR before for sinus infections, Im usually pretty good at

fighting off infections of this type by myself anyway the DR said most of

these abscesses come from infection of this type, what happens is it moves in

the blood to the brain, the body tries to contain the infection in one area

.......... NOT good if this is in the brain, because then you end up with a what

I call ball of pus (hence the swelling on crucial parts of the brain)

............. I know, gross huh? if my antibiotics hadn't worked then they would

have

drilled through my thick scull (hubby said this would have taken days .......

Not funny) and then drain the abscess ugggggggggg but Im OK so this wont

happen heehee swelling is down

I am not one who gets the run of the mill illnesses, I had a blood infection

when I was a child, and they never found the entry, I had hives the sz of my

fist as a child with no known cause (after yrs of tests) I contracted

hepatitis, a very rare form from another country when Sara was 3, I only

traveled to

the Walmart and Krogers back then and now this sooooooooooo none of this

surprises me just makes me a bit wiser and slows me down a bit lol

My kitchen will be done tomorrow Yippee and I'll move on to the living room

and then dining room. My family room Im not touching and the 4 bedrooms and

hallways my oldest daughter will paint as I declutter a room before she gets in

it this is my plan

I am learning a hard lesson of letting go, my garbage man must think Im nuts

with the amount he has to pick up every Monday heehee Ive also learned I am

not into home design, Im awful at it, so all bedrooms are being painted WHITE

LOL let the new owners pick their own colors

Oh I forgot to mention, I found the best escape from this mess Im in and I

can lay down in my PJs for this (no Tim not what your thinking lol) anyway its

" Big Brother #5 " an ABC show about a bunch of nuts living together and being

voted out once a week .............. I love it, I get to leave my house and

enter another for an hour heehee I have hubby and my oldest daughter watching it

too, its almost like an event around here ........... we all need our mental

escapes

My brain has had some lapses in judgments lately lol

Leaving Sams club, I pointed and asked my hubby " why don't you turn into the

turning lane (while wew were waiting to pull out into traffic) well he did

pull into this lane that I pointed at only it wasn't the turning lane, it was

the

apposing traffic ......... and cars started coming right at us. We were stuck

because all of our lanes were full ROTFLOL I guess you just had to be there.

He sternly said " why do I listen to you " I answered " hey Im the one with the

brain injury why do you " (by this time I was dying laughing in our plight

lolol) like I said you had to be there.

Yes I have a brain, I walked into an IEP not able to read anything in front

of me and received all I asked for except guidance lol my buddy support person

said I did great (and she read all my paperwork lol)

Hi- just real quick cause i was skimming- she definatley needs guidance

especially in middle school. The way you can convince them is to say for the

transition, puberty and adolescence. ya know what a bad year amanda had and she

had guidance (well occassionally). Imagine if she didnt have it!

they absolutely cannot take guidance away in middle school of all times.

It sounds like my house. My husband went out and tipped the garbage man $20.00

to take sheet rock and stuff. With all the stuff I have been putting out we

figured we owed them. That is tooooo scary about the brain abcess. I have

always heard you could get one from sinus infection but never actually KNEW

anyone it happened to. I always wondered if it was a hoax. Now we ALL know it

is not. I bet a lot of people on this list will be running to their dr.'s in

the next couple of days with their sinus infections lol!!! I also am

decluttering each room as we re-do it. My kitchen will be started the week

after labor day and though I really need a new kitchen and am excited. I am

also dreading it. They are ripping everything out this next week and my family

room isn't done yet, YIKES I don't know where we will al go. Oh well such is

life. Thank the good Lord they didn't have to drill your skull who knows what

they would have found lol!!! Just kidding, glad your doing better, enjoy big

brother 5. Other peiople's problems always make your own seem better.
