Guest guest
Hi all, I have been a lurker here for the past 2 years and really enjoy reading the posts and have learned a lot. Thank You My question is that my daughter (Allie) is 2 1/2 yo and went thru an av canal repair at 6 months, things went very well and she is doing great. Since her surgery the cardiologist has kept her on captopril for her heart. We are going for a check up with the cardiologist and I was wondering, those of you that have gone thru the same surgery, are your children still on heart medication. Is the medication something that changed with your children ? Thank You for your replies.
Guest guest
Hi , Now forgive me, it's been 7 years since Nic's surgery but if I recall, he took the diuretics for a short time after his surgery. I don't recall for how long but I'm sure it wasn't a year. Nic was 11 weeks old and had the AV Canal, ASD, common valve and a PDA repair. Guest guest
My son also had the same surgery at 5 months and did not stay on the medication long after the surgery. He just turned 10 and has not taken any medication since, and we've (thankfully) had no problems. Donna
Guest guest
Hi , My daughter had the same A-V canal surgery and like others who responded was taken off all heart meds just a few months after surgery. Please let us know what happens. And let us know why your cardiologist feels your child needs to continue.
