Faced with renewing my office SAIF WC policy and having had another

claim denial recently( they had to have have paid the IME alone more than

my bill for 11 visits), I went shopping for alternatives. Guess what, if

you offer lousy service, harass your customers and claimants, you can

keep your rates down! Liberty was $125 higher for the year and Hartford

was $400 higher! So while cursing under my breath I wrote the check to

SAIF., just imagining what percentage of my premium was going to idiot

consultants like Neil Goldschmidt. Oh well, look at it like fire

insurance, you hope you never have to make a claim...Have a good weekend,

I too have found SAIF to be cheaper, but I refuse to send them any of

my hard earned money. I have Hartford, pay a bit more, but sleep

well at night. I spend more money than the difference between SAIF

and Hartford on eating out or entertainment, and feel very good about

it.

Ron-

I would like to use your note as an example of human nature. You are confronted with a economic/service/quality question. You know that SAIF is slime but they provide a product at a lower price than competitors. In the final analysis is SAIF any worse than Liberty or Hartford? You don't really know so you let the economics make the decision. This is the same logic patients utilize when they need health care. Should I go to the MD? How about the PT? Chiropractic sounds like it might work but my insurance doesn't cover it, or I need medical referral first. Well I'll just go to the MD and if he can't help I'll ask him about chiropractic or PT and see which he thinks is best!

Folks, we need a level playing field, insurance equality! Human nature is human nature. An the majority of people do not seek care unless they perceive need (they are ill or injured). True "health care" in the sense of education, prevention, fitness and nutrition is a beautiful dream but at present is not reality for the vast majority of citizens. Most people will continue to seek care that is "covered" by there insurance. For the many uninsured they will continue to avoid care due to the cost until they need emergency care, upon which they will present to ER/Urgent care, get treated for $$$$, not pay for services and dump the bill on society at large.

I continue to believe that the best approach is high deductible catastrophic insurance coupled with medical savings accounts. If all patients had to pay for routine care out of pocket or MSA account for the MD, DC or whomever, this would be closer to a level field.
