Isn't that the truth!! My speech therapist said the same thing. If she had to choose a disability for her child it would be DS. She also said she wouldn't be unhappy if told she would have one. She oved working with " our " kids. Loree
Guest guest
Thanks Loree - a great article - it has always been an annoyance of mind reading articles on how older women should be tested early in pregnancy for DS - as a friend was told by the Nuns at the hospital her child with DS was born - if you had to chose a disabililty for your child, DS would be the one, in other words it isn't the major devasation the media hype it up to be. Yes, we all know the problems, but what about the highs we get from our kids achievements, I have cried more times over the years with sheer proudness of Trents great achievements, than I would have done for my other three children combined. Keep smiling - Jan mother of Trent 19yo w/DS from the Land of Oz > I received this article from another list I am on for parent's who have > adopted children with DS. I think you will enjoy it. Guest guest
Isn't it so true? Tonight I had one of those moments. goes once a week to therapeutic horseback riding. When I got there, the owner was so excited to tell me that is pictured in " Berks County Living " magazine along with an article about the ranch. She brought me up to her home to show me the actual magazine and she made copies of it for me. I was so damn proud to see such a beautiful picture (in color) of my son on his horse giving a huge smile and a " thumbs up. " This moment tripled what I felt for my youngest last night when he pitched a no hitter and drove in 2 runs, winning the game for his team 2-0. I remember hearing so many times when was first diagnosed that DS was the best handicap to have.....very bizzare. Anyway, my son is still my biggest challenge and he doesn't possess anything but " teenage syndrome.
