Dear Colleagues:

We have a wonderful individual running for the Oregon House that has been a chiropractic patient of our good colleague Rathbone, DC. Andy Olson is now living in Albany and running for the House. Andy is a honest hard working man of faith who worked in the Oregon State Police for some 29 years.

Andy was in a auto accident while in his patrol car which constituted a Worker's Compensation Claim and was subsequently treated by Dr. Rathbone. However because of the nonsensical restrictions to chiropractic care his treatment was arbitrarily cut short...and he didn't like it one bit.

This guy will be great on our patient's issues and I'm asking for you all to consider donating just $10.00 to his campaign. We will be sending a letter to all 1100+ colleagues in the state asking that they support Andy by donating just $10.00....everyone can afford this amount and it is my hope that we can get a minimum of 500 colleagues doing this which will put $5,000 in Andy's war chest.

If you wish to write a check for more than the suggested $10.00 by all means please do so...this guy is great!!

If you agree please write your checks to:

Andy Olson for State Representative and send them to

PO Box 891

Albany, Oregon 97321-0328

Thanks for your consideration,

Vern Saboe, DC

President Chiropractic Association of Oregon

Albany

Vern:

Do you have any information regarding Andy Olson beyond his being a

chiropractic patient? Where does he stand on important state issues, etc.

Thanks

I second Dr. Chaser's query. Also, I contribute to ICE-PAC (therefore I am not a freeloader), and I am wondering if any of the candidates that ICE-PAC supports in turn support the tort reform measures being aggressively pursued by the Oregon Medical Association ? One of these measures wants a constitutional amendment, yes, a constitutional amendment to limit attorney's fees. We complain about limitations on our fees and the outrageous manner in which fees are determined and therefore as strictly a business matter we cannot support this measure as it is an infringement on free trade. (Think domino effect.) I believe that we have to expand some in our thinking to include lawyers that work hard (very hard) to help our patients in the legal arena. So Vern, where do these candidates stand on these matters ? see attached link to OMA web site : http://www.theoma.org/

Yes, Bruce. He is a conservative Republican. So accountability in State budgeting especially in regards to state agencies is important to Andy. He follows the conservative views in a nutshell.

Sharron:

It is my view that we must first be concerned with our patient's issues, our profession's issues.

With that said we are supporting both sides of the isle and I have had many conversations with my very good freind Rep. Jeff Kropf regarding tort reform. Jeff like Andy is also very conservative and I am giving him imformation realtive to the down side of tort reform etc., etc.

At the same time we heavily supported folks like now Senator Charlie Ringo when he ran against very conservative Rep. Bill Witt. Charlie is a Democrat, a PI attorney, and is simply a great guy. We supported Charlie because the knucklehead Rep. Witt keep pushing for Farmer's horrible PIP bill during the 2001 session, giving the Bill repeated work sessions even though his own committee didn't like the thing.

We need to error on the side of who is better on OUR issues then consider the balance. Really our patient's issues and those of the profession are non-partisian.

Bottomline folks....if we are removed from PIP, continue to have closed panels in health care, even more disgusting reimbursement rates, no Worker's Compensation, etc., etc., etc. Tort reform, school system reform, government reform, tax reform, potatoe sack reform whatever, will be of little interest/consequence to us.

Andy Olson is a good guy, a chiropractic patient who was injured via a Worker's Compensation claim and is great on our issues...it's that simple.

Thanks for the reply Vern. I agree with your 'bottom line' whole heartedly, ( 'Bottomline folks....if we are removed

from PIP, continue to have closed panels in health care, even more disgusting reimbursement rates, no Worker's Compensation, etc., etc., etc. Tort reform, school system reform, government reform, tax reform, potatoe sack reform whatever, will be of little interest/consequence to us.') however, the problems with PIP are so involved with lawyers that we need to show some solidarity on the tort reform issue. As a first step, without dragging our potential legislators into the fray just now, we could refuse to sign the petitions that need enough signatures to put these measures on the ballot. We also could inform our patients that denying rights for a group comes back full circle to deny other's their rights, including them (which is what the cap is about).

Keep up the good work.
