Guest guest
I went to visit my mom yesterday. The nurse pulled me aside to tell me she had 2 visitors a short while before. It was cold, windy and rainy yesterday. The nurse saw them putting moms coat on her. She asked them where they were going. They said " out for some fresh air " . The nurse told them she (my mom) was NOT to smoke! A few minutes later the nurse gets a call from the front desk saying a patient was outside smoking. She sent an aide down to confirm it. Now I know she's an adult and no one forced her to smoke but would you take a bag of coke to a drug rehab??? I was (and still am, livid). I did some digging and found out who it was. I just got back from confronting her about it and the women just didn't get it. Now, mom can't speak except for the word " no " . She can't even gesture to the bathroom when she has to go. What she does is, waves her hand around and then we have to play 50 questions until we hit what she needs. We tried PECS and she can't use more than 2 pics at a time. We tried teaching the sign for bathroom and she couldn't do it on her own. She can barely write her name and even spelled that wrong. My point being, I KNOW she couldn't have asked them to take her out for a smoke! So i say to the woman, what were you thinking??? She said no one told her mom couldn't smoke. I said, did you see her? After seeing her with 1 arm, 1 leg and no speech, wouldn't that ring a bell that Hey, maybe smoking isn't such a good idea. I said she has 1 good carotid artery and smoking constricts arteries reducing the blood flow to her brain, do you think she can afford that right now??? I was going off and she really didn't understand why I was so upset! UGH!!! She said she knows her name is probably on the hospital list of people not allowed to visit so she won't even try. I told her that was correct (but not really). I'm just in total disbelief about this whole thing! Di
