Guest guest
Well, when our area was having a pretty bad drought, there was advice from contractors to water the lawn to prevent the ground from getting so dry that it. . .I think contracted?. . .and caused foundation damage because of the shifting around. I wouldn't think that watering after damage was done would fix anything, although it might keep it from getting worse. Shouldn't have anything to do with interior walls, although extremely low (or high) inside humidity can cause problems. No idea how the house moves with the grass. I think that may be some sort of folksy old saw. ; ) It's the dirt that matters and needs the water. Guest guest
Well Leis, there are two kinds of houses in Texas... Houses that need foundation repair now, and houses that will need foundation repair later. We happen to have very heavy clay soil that shrinks/expands up to seven times its size. Around here, we keep soaker hoses dripping all summer about a foot from the foundation, all around the house. This keeps the moisture content consistent, and the soil doesn't expand/contract excessively. After just a few dry days around here, you will see big cracks forming in the soil around the house, and it draws away from the foundation up to an inch. You can imagine what happens when that support is taken away from the foundation. Depending on the time of the year, we have doors that either stick, or won't stay latched. Same with our fence gates, sometimes they overlap, sometimes they don't even catch. It's just a fact of life around here. Cracks come and go in the walls too, it's just plain weird. So yes, you do need to " water your house " so to speak. Just be sure to make it gentle, drip irrigation, as you don't want the water to lie in puddles...that's not good either. Hope this answered your question...:-) Karla in Texas House qtn- NON ds Hi guys We had a house inspection a few weeks ago Guy told me that to get a crack in the wall to " fix " itself that we need to water the lawn more- that because the house moves with the grass Is this true????? -- Aussie Leis- mum to BJ - 6- ds, Natasha 2 and 6 months Click reply to all for messages to go to the list.
