Things I can think of is extra water vaporized in lungs, less absorption, more sweat, more heat transferred thru skin (doesn't necessarily effect body temperature), more nervousness.

Ghrelin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ghrelin is a hormone produced by P/D1 cells lining the fundus of the human stomach that stimulate appetite( Bowers, et al). In rodents, X/A-like cells produce ghrelin.

nice diagram at:

A 2003 news: {A pretty good discussion of a real problem.}

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/03/11/60II/main543614.shtml

Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. It’s made in the stomach, and it tells the brain when it’s time to eat. Ghrelin doesn’t cause obesity, but scientists think taming it might help us get our scales back in balance.

{That's if you can get people to quit eating just because it's there.}

They’re also investigating an opposite hormone – PYY – that makes you feel full.

But ghrelin is NOT the ONLY hormone involved in obesity. There's also growth hormone releasing hormone(GHRH), and more than you wanted to know. See Larsen: Textbook of Endocrinology, 10th ed., pg 220.

Growth Hormone Biosynthesis

"GH synthesis and release are under control of a variety of hormonal agents, including GHRH, somatostatin, ghrelin, IGF-I, thyroid hormone, and glucocorticoids. GHRH stimulates GH synthesis and release mediated by cAMP. "

What ghrelin vaccine may due is obviate stomach stapling, assuming excess ghrelin is being produced and is their culprit.

[ ] Ghrelin Vaccine (????)

Hi folks:On the TV news last night a 'scientist' was interviewed who said they now had a 'ghrelin vaccine' the effect of which, in animal tests, was that the immune system dramatically reduces circulating ghrelin levels and thereby "people could eat as much as they want and not put on weight".Of course they did not explain what happens to the excess calories that are ingested. They did claim that the reduced ghrelin levels prevented fat deposition. So ........... does this, assuming it is true, result in a much higher body temperature? Or accumulation of sugar/starch deposits somewhere in the body, instead of fat? Or does it cause a dramatic reduction in intestinal absorption? Or do the animals jog marathons in their sleep and have no recollection of it when they wake up? Where do the extra ingested calories, which are not deposited as fat, disappear to? This was not disclosed.In addition, what were the chemical biomarkers of the voracious-but-slim animals? Did they have lipids, insulin, CRP, WBC values typical of animals that eat lots of calories without the vaccine benefit? Or did they have the biomarker values of animals on 30% CR? Or perhaps entirely different values?Clearly I am skeptical about this. But let's see how this news develops. I mention it just to bring it to people's attention.Rodney.

Is ghrelin a signal for the development of metabolic systems?

"However, male mice with deletions of ghrelin (Ghrl–/– mice) or GHSR (Ghsr–/– mice) display normal growth and regulation of food intake. "

Notice fig 1. White Adipose outputs leptin, a controller

hormone.

As ghrelin is an appetite stimulatant, perhaps how much

they WANT to eat is not as much as before the vaccine.

In that case, there would be no excess calories of which

to take account. There would be fewer, but the vaccinated

individual would not feel deprived.
