Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I had my ICD checked today. I do have one of the problem leads. What they do is program an alarm to go off if there is any problems with that lead. I have had no problems since my implant in 2005. Everything seems to be working fine. It's true that with out this technology where would we be? So yes, I feel we have to take the good with the bad. I also feel when it is my time to go that's it bad lead or not I gone. Guest guest
Hi Toni, This is a tough time for everyone involved with this recall...BUT, I do think we do have to take the good with the bad, as you say...AND hopefully there will be LOTS more GOOD than bad! Thanks for your thoughts. LaurieMsToniAnn@... wrote: Hi Laurie, I had my ICD checked today. I do have one of the problem leads. Guest guest
Hi, I also had a visit with the Medtronic Tech yesterday. I do have one of the leads in question. I am now programed to Beep at 10: A.M. CST if it shows a problem. I made a living doing environmental risk assessments prior to retirement from Federal Civil Service. I was concerned when the letter came in from Medtronics. I am satisfied now with the solution offered. The data does not support that we are at much more risk than any other person with a ICD. All leads have some failure rate. The Sprint Fidelis is showing a higher rate over the last 30 months. Like 256,000 other high risk heart patients, I would not last long without the ICD in place. I am a 64 year old retired granddad that is happy that Medtronic's is around so I can be. I hope not to be a party to a Class action case. The Attorneys that are pushing this action will take most of award resulting in higher medical cost for the rest of us to pick up. Guest guest
Very well said Craig and I absolutely agree with you about the class-action suit. Guest guest
Dear Craig, My husband has also received the letter from Medtronics and our heart doctor. Does anyone know about a class action law suit? We would like information on who has initiated it. Can anyone in the group give me that information? Guest guest
Type " Medtronic lead " into Google and you'll have names of lawyers and firms for days. I wouldn't get in too big a rush, however, as if there is a class action lawsuit brought forward -- and that's no small " if " -- you'll have time to sign on with whatever firm after its been certified to bring a class action. And you still have the option of going after it on your own with your own attorney. (In fact if you have an attorney you work with now, an appointment and conversation about what legal options are available to you would be time well spent before signing on with anyone.) The point here being Medtronic gets to hire its own lawyers as well, whose job it will be to deflect liability from Medtronic. Meaning that _if_ a suit is brought forward _and_ Medtronic is found liable _and_ it is determined that a dollar figure can be put to this liability _and_ the attorney's fees are paid from that sum _then_ you get a payout, maybe about $10 in your mailbox in about five years. So no, to save anyone the trouble of reading between the lines, I'm not a big fan of class action lawsuits and for that matter have been pleased with Medtronic's response to this matter. And I'm not an attorney, / > > Dear Craig, > > My husband has also received the letter from > Medtronics and our heart doctor. Does anyone know > about a class action law suit? Guest guest
, Thanks for the link. I have not been shocked and am generally not in favor of suing anyone. I can understand that others may feel different. http://www.medtronicheartleadrecall.com/pdf/20070321-dear-doctor.pdf I found this document interesting. My take is that the doctor may have something to do with the lead failure in the way they installed it. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get our EP doc to give us an answer as to if any of their patients have had a problem? Life continues to be interesting but at least it continues.
