Hi everyone!

Mark and I just got back from his three month check of his ICD. He

had it implanted on July 6. They tightened the parameters for the

recalled lead and showed us what an alarm would sound like. I was

most anxious to see if all of the exercise that Mark is getting now is

excessive, but everything looks good. He's being paced about 91% and

hasn't had any therapies. He has early heartbeats about 10% of the

time so it can't pace him as much as the doctor would like. He has

lost 85 pounds since he was diagnosed in March and is walking 8-12

miles a day. He will be receiving a Carelink from Medtronics, so he

won't have to go back to the EP for a year. We're definitely feeling

much more positive than we did in March. This list has helped us so

much. Thanks to everyone on here.

Mark - how did you lose all of that weight. Your docs must be thrilled. Darlenebyork1992 <byork1992@...> wrote: Hi everyone!Mark and I just got back from his three month check of his ICD. Darlene, As soon as Mark was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, he went on a very low sodium diet. His doctors didn't tell him to lose weight, but he wants to live as long as possible, and he hopes that losing weight will help his heart. At least 15 pounds was water weight that we didn't know about when he went on lasix, because we thought that he had pneumonia, not heart problems. For four months he basically gave up all of the unhealthy foods that he had been eating and would reward himself with his favorite Chinese food once a month. He would gain several pounds of water weight after eating Chinese, now he doesn't gain much weight overnight when he eats it. He pretty much ate a vegetable beef soup that he makes weekly with a salad. He has yogurt and cereal for breakfast. He uses lemon juice vinegar and spices on all of his food now to make up for the salt. We are all eating

much healthier, but the weight isn't melting off me or our son the way it has on Mark. He started walking a few months ago and is now up to 8-12 miles a day. We both wear pedometers all day. I only came close to his mileage last week when I went to Disneyworld with my sister and son. He is thinner now than when I met him. He can eat a bigger variety of foods now that he is getting more exercise, but still keeps his sodium pretty low. I buy lots of food from a low sodium market website. His cardiologist wants to know how he lost the weight, because he wants to lose 40 pounds. I'm so proud of him. This has been a struggle, but he doesn't complain, he just goes for it.
