Guest guest
On a lighter news, do you know that today is world jump day? In switzerland alot of people gatherd together to prove this theory which if 600 million people in the western hemisphere and jump simultaneously they claim that it would move earth orbit just enough that global warming would be eliminated. Any Thoughts??TURKbillmahan <billandmarthamahan@...> wrote: Groups are talking. We´re listening. Check out the handy changes to .

Guest guest
Hey Guys, How do they measure EF other than by ultrasound. I feel great but my EF measured by ultrasound is only 15 . On that basis I should be claiming disability and I would feel like a fraud..... Thanks for the input. Parish
Guest guest
, Earlier you wrote that your EF dropped when you exercised. I feel that I am in the same boat. What tests did you take to show that this was the case? I have a decent EF at rest (40), but I cannot do what I should be able to do with that EF. I would be very interested to know how it was shown that your EF dropped into the 20's. Thanks, Doug Re: World Jump Day Bill, you're a sick man. Guest guest
All this was determined during a Stress Echo test. They take a resting Echo, then begin the exercise portion on a treadmill, taking another Echo when certain levels are reached. Because of the beta blockers, they couldn't get my heartrate up high enough so they used a medication called adenosine to chemically increase my heartrate as though it was being exercised. You still have to walk on the treadmill but not at the speed and exertion they would normally use. This test was ordered by the electrophysiologist who implanted the ICD. The EP said that I was basically stable and to continue the medications and to be sure to get some exercise in every day, even if that exercise is simply walking. 30 to 60 minutes of walking a day, which, in this heat, is tough. I was hiking in the woods until the summer hit. Now I have to wait until it gets dark and just stroll around the neighborhood. Guest guest
One accurate way is through the angiogram, where they stick a catheter through a femoral vein into the heart and inject a dye that they can track on a fluoroscope. The problem with an echocardiogram (ultrasound) and the angiogram is that they are trying to measure a three dimensional process with a two dimensional technology. Their estimates are pretty close and when you have an angio and an echo agreeing, then that is probably what the EF is. Disability has to do with your ability to work. The SSA says that if you are able to work even part-time, then you are not disabled. An EF of 15% is pretty low. But what does your cardiologist say about the New York Heart Association Classification for your level of heart failure? Class III and IV are generally considered disabled. Here are the classes and the associated symptoms: Class I (Mild) No limitation of physical activity. Ordinary physical activity does not cause undue fatigue, palpitation, or dyspnea (shortness of breath). Class II (Mild) Slight limitation of physical activity. Comfortable at rest, but ordinary physical activity results in fatigue, palpitation, or dyspnea. Class III (Moderate) Marked limitation of physical activity. Comfortable at rest, but less than ordinary activity causes fatigue, palpitation, or dyspnea. Class IV (Severe) Unable to carry out any physical activity without discomfort. Symptoms of cardiac insufficiency at rest. If any physical activity is undertaken, discomfort is increased. Guest guest
Hi , My EP uses the MUGA test to determine EF. According to him the MUGA is the "gold standard" for EF. You could ask your cardiologist for a MUGA to verify the ultrasound. Doug Re: World Jump Day Hey Guys, How do they measure EF other than by ultrasound. Guest guest
The last time I had a MUGA scan, the technicians had to figure out how to use the machine because they said it is rarely used anymore. Who's to know? Re: World Jump Day Hey Guys, How do they measure EF other than by ultrasound. I feel great but my EF measured by ultrasound is only 15 .
