Guest guest
"Carolyn, where do Emma and Nicki attend school? Please school age Moms and Dads, share with me what you all are doing." Hi ! Long time no chat! Emma and Nicki both attend a Montessori preschool. It's an option we chose as I wasn't thrilled about the public kindergarten here. First term 2002, Emma will move to the Montessori primary school. Basically I love Montessori as each child is treated as an individual and work at their own pace with no pressure from what the others are doing. The class is mixed age so Emma and Nicki have 5 year olds to guide them. All the equipment they use is self correcting so they don't require an adult to help them although Emma insists on having an adult with her at all times being the personality she is. Montessori kids don't start primary school until close to 6 years old so that's another benefit. If you have a Montessori preschool in your area, it's well worth a visit and there are some great books out about the Montessori philosophy. Try searching on "Montessori" and you should find some good info on the net also. I know how you feel about the school dilemma but I am sure your gut instinct will tell you if it feels right or not! :-) Mother's intuition - you just can't beat it! Guest guest
Hi , here is MY take on our own up-coming school situation for Tara{Ds}and . Since my oldest, Bobby will be entering 2nd grade this fall, Jillian, kindergarten, We've decieded to send Tara to our district's " handicapp " pre-school.....I have to admit my thoughts and feelings are ever changing as does Tara, as she progress'. My feeling s are, this is where we live, this is where her siblings go to school, this is where she will go to school! This is her community, she will attend PAL type functions, sports and other things right here in our/her town! I run around enough to her ear/eye doctors and her school right now{which is an hour away}until she turns 3, I'm determined to make this work! MY feelings on parochial school is great, I attended them myself, but it's not for Tara{at least not the schools here in NJ}they don't have special ed teachers, nor a department for special needs children, nor do they have to have one, what scares me especially this early in her school career is to put her into a " regular " class room with a " regular " teacher who wouldn't know anything about Tara! She does need the special ed, now, maybe later on in her life to see what direction she is headed, maybe an inclusion classrm..........also, thinking in two more years when the twins are 4 1/2 for that Sept, sending them 3 days a week to a regular preschool, will have to see how that works out. Jillian's old preschool director said that would be great, she would love to have the twins{ofcourse Tara would be 1/2 days at her " hadicapp " preschool, recieving all her therapies}the reg preschool would be something extra for Tara................. just my thoughts for now.......... Guest guest
Today, i drove shan to school. she normally takes a bus. friday she did not attend. the bus arrives at the school at 8:30am. so, this morn..i called the school at 9 am to say i am bringing shan in and we will be there about 9:30. they were missing her for half hour before i even called...gave them time to think i suppose, cuz i alwwwwways call before the bus would arrive. When we arrived to the classroom..the partition was gone! i didnt look to happy and i never said a word. the teacher came up to me and he started first. he said, arlene, last wednesday we tried the " wall " ...but the only problem with it was..it blocked my view from shannon and i decided that will not do. I need to come up with new stradegies and i know the wall is not a good idea. are you okay arlene? did you want to talk? i have about 15 min right now.. my reply was....i dont want to talk right now, and i am glad there is no wall, thankyou. i was here to remove your wall. you put the walls up...i need time to take mine down. *yikes* he looked like a very hurt puppy....but ...the wall was down and i didnt have to ask to have it removed. hmmmmm guess they got the hint i was a bit angries... thanks all for your support. I had the strength to go in there today, because i did for all of US. i did it for all the sweet kids coming up behind shan. we are the " oldest " at this school and we were the first for this school. Your road is being paved...thanks guys! Arlene ps..i appreciated all my emails. its nice to know you guys are always here.
