Guest guest
-- How old was when he was diagnosed with apraxia? Who diagnosed him? I've gotten different " vibes " from different SLP's regarding Mac and the possibility of being apraxic. Two therapist felt he was apraxic, but he was never officially diagnosed. His current SLP thinks it's too early to tell and isn't focusing on any type of therapy/activities that would treat the apraxic part of his communication/speech difficulties. Just curious what your (and others) experiences have been. I realize it is a difficult area to assess in children and is somewhat controversial, but I wish I knew for sure one way or another--is or isn't he--so he could benenfit from therapy to treat that apraxia. Guest guest
Noah was only 4 I think, when he was diagnosed with apraxia. We saw a developmental pediatrician, and she basically just looked for a significant difference between receptive and expressive language. Guest guest
Sounds like what we went through many, many years ago with . One therapist said he had apraxia, another vehemently denied that he did. Still don't know to this day. The one that said he had apraxia was the only one in our area who gave therapy for it and she had a full case load at the time and couldn't add him on. So we found someone who knew a " little " about apraxia and did some things with for a few months but came back around and said he did not appear to her to have apraxia, so we let it drop. His speech developed slowly but surely and most people can understand pretty well. He has always been gabby and sociable. Could be better, but like everything else, it comes eventually with patience and when he is ready. Guest guest
I cant remember how old he was- I'm thinking it was age 4 or 5. I did make the request and specified a particular therapist due to her reputation of diagnosing apraxia. Apraxia was out of the league for the ST he had at the time. The ST who did the assessment was employed by the schools - she was just at a different school building. Re: New Member/Apraxia > -- > How old was when he was diagnosed with apraxia?
