Sharron,

I have been asked several time to do a talk show on the radio. Some are serious. Most are essentially paid advertising. He pays X dollars to get his name out and sell the audience, and the radio station gets free programming and commercial air time.

I had a chance to listen to Colin Hoobler PT on KOTK am 1080 on Sunday at 11am. It took about 5 minutes and it became clear that Mr. Hoobler is a fast talking entrepreneur with his own line of things to sell. I heard nothing bad about the Chiropractic profession although he did bad mouth others. I have the feeling that if anyone tried to confront him directly he would exert the force necessary to totally block you out as no one could possibly be anything near to what he is or what he has to say. The only way to approach this, from my view ,would be to let the radio station know of your displeasure at his bad mouthing anyone and that you will also be contacting the advertisers for that particular show.

Hi Ted, I understand some of that but there was concern awhile back that this fellow was badmouthing Chiropractic and people were wondering what to do about it ,if anything. I feel that he should just polish his own buttons and not be negative against others. Which is the same thing I say that the Chiropractic profession should do in regards to the Medical profession.

It wouldn't be paid advertising if you talked on community radio. There are venues on public radio for our message(s). KBOO, KOAP, and others in Eugene and Astoria can be forums for less heard ideas. I have spoken on commercial radio to promote community events which is pretty harmless. I spend most of my time on local community radio where I have a half an hour a week to say whatever I want as long as I don't promote myself- too blatantly. I bring in "experts" of all types and we have conversations. Today I had on an herbalist/nutritionist and we talked about natural treatments for depression. It was great. People called in afterwards requesting copies of the tape. I didn't say a word about chiropractic, maybe missed an opportunity, however, I did talk about the psychological danger of taking anti-depressants rather than dealing with the underlying causes. Sorry, I don't buy the "chemical inbalance" theory that is being expounded so much lately.
