my experience with amio was very short lived. I was only on it for

about 4 days. I started having very bad palpatations and was afraid

that I was going to get shocked, then I began to break out in a

rash. Naturally, it was the weekend, so I had to call the on call

cardiologist. He told me to quit taking it and see my doc Mon.

Since then I have been put on Rythmol 225 mg 2x day.

,

I've been on it for two years now. Had six zaps in a two hour period and landed in emergency overnight until my rhythm was brought back under control. Was started on 400 mgs and was cut down to 200 mgs a few months later: have had no shocks since then. Make sure you get blood work-ups periodically as on some people this med can be hard on the liver.

Take care

I've mastered being an old geezer and an old codger and am now working toward being a curmudgeon.

Hi ,

I'm a every day lurker on this board and this is my 1st post. This is

a wonderful board with great people. I was on amio for 4 months. I

was recovering from a MI and VT.I had a Metronic ICD installed Oct

05. The drug was very hard on me. Felt sick like chemo I quess. Very

tired, depressed, lethargic and I could not see straight. Driving was

out. Went to an eye doctor and he said I was slighly cross eyed!

Anyway I'm off now for a year , on Coreg 2 x's a day and feel real

great.

Still a joey at the present.

My doc told me you can't stay on amio indefinitely because it causes

greater voltage needed to shock you out of a VT.This would require a

hospital visit to set off your ICD on a annual schedule. Not for me.

Good luck and be well.

Fred

Hi - I have been on Amiodorone for about ten years. I am 55. I had afib for nine of those years and then I got an ICD. After about three months my afib stopped and my PVC's stopped. I still have heart failure, but I am doing ok. I have not had any side effects to speak of. I get my eyes, lungs, and liver checked on a regular basis. My cardiologist would like to take me off of it because of how long I have been on it...but we don't know what might happen with my sinus rhythm or my PVC's. It is a hard call. Darlene I am on 200 mg per day. Fred <fredfryguy@...> wrote: >> Can anyone tell me about their experiences with amiodorone? How long were> you on it? Did it work?
