Guest guest
Sorry if I sound like a proud father... Remember that 2-part TV news series my friend Steve did on Guidant last year? He spent months putting the pieces together after I told him about the deaths linked to defective ICDs. WXYZ-TV7 in Detroit deserves credit for giving Steve the resources to really do the story properly... including trips all the way to Florida to interview me and to Texas to interview long time ZapFolk (Bill F in Houston) who got one of the faulty implants... and other adventures to Minneapolis, Washington, and New York chasing Guidant and FDA executives responsible for the botched procedures. (Most of whom "retired" after Steve's reports aired!) Well now... Steve's work has been recognized by the gold standard when it comes to television journalism: The Guidant series of reports was awarded an Emmy for Investigative Reporting! If you have not seen those extensive reports... you can still read and watch them via the links below: Investigators: Guidant Part 1 Investigators: Guidant Part 2 This award is REALLY a big deal! In all my (30+) years in TV news, I never won one of those statues... but one in which my ugly mug appeared does get the prize. ;-) Caveat: I was nominated for a few Emmy Awards over the years... Ironically, the first was for a series I produced while working for Steve in San Francisco. My final thought: Thank heavens for snoopy news folks like Steve (at WXYZ) and Barry Meier (at the NYT) who are out their protecting us 24/7... 365.25!! Stay well....
