First, HR can stay lower because BP rises faster.

Second, I question:

Their study involved 1,378 men between 42 to 61 years of age who had no coronary heart disease.

The subjects were a representative sample of 1378 men, 42-61 years of age, from eastern Finland with neither prior coronary heart disease (CHD) nor use of beta-blockers at baseline. PMID: 16399774

How did they establish no cardiac problems? I think they would have to do an angiogram to establish that. Why would someone with no heart disease have "blunted" HR increase?
