Guest guest
In what way is someone suggesting that a child's inability to tolerate loud noises being neurological? My (14) simply cannot tolerate loud noises if we go to choir concerts etc. He enjoys the music but has to cover his ears to be able to not jump out of his skin. I would really like information on this if anyone knows. Guest guest
Wow, reading all these posts makes me feel very fortunate that has had none of these issues. I have always been able to take him anywhere, anytime, without any behavior or sensory issues. Just goes to show that you can't generalize about the DS population......they are each as individual as the snowflakes that are about to fall in the Northeast starting tomorrow night! LOL. Guest guest
There is a whole set of auditory processing disorders(APDs)that are neurological. Hypersensitive hearing (Hyperacusis)is associated with some. One of Jessie's audiologists once said excessive ear wax can also cause sensitivity. Guest guest
Becky, You might want to get a copy of the book " the out of sync child " it decibes problems with kids who have problems intergrating their surroundings. It also has some ways to help try to desentitze the person who has problems. Do they work with every child, probably not, since not everyone will react the same, we are individuals after all, lol, but the book is informative and can be helpful to some.
